I had my line installed on 11/12/2013, I also started using my uncapped account from TI the same evening.

Browsing seems fine, even YouTube seemed to stream fine. I am however having problems downloading from Steam, there seems to be no stable speed its keeps jumping basically every second between 0 and ~280KB/s (my average was in the region of ~30KB/s). Here is a printscreen with some usage tracking I did while download from Steam to illustrate what I mean http://i.imgur.com/KZw2PW6.jpg?1

Another thing is P2P seems non-existent. I am aware of shaping policies and such but I can't download anything. From chatting to other MyBroadband members on the Telkom Uncapped Feedback thread yesterday evening, at the time of me testing P2P, others where getting full speed while I was unable to even start a download.

I have tried the basic troubleshooting stuff such as reconnecting/switching modem off and on, etc. I tried to connect with my Webafrica account I had the same problem with steam. So I turned my windows firewall off. Still the SAME thing!

I called Telkom, they reset my connection on their side. Nothing changed. I am now waiting to speak to a consultant to check my line....

I am using the router provided by Telkom, the Netgear N300. Not sure if there is a firewall setting here. I have looked but for the life of me I cannot find this.

Guys I am getting desperate here.... I have posted this on the feedback forum but thought maybe here I would get others help too.

Howzit quax,

Try running this when you get home: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/576445-quot-Help-me-fix-my-internet-quot-report-tool . It will allow us to see where the issue is (if there is one).

The results will be copied to the clipboard for you to post here.

Thanks Zertop! Here are my results:

International Speedtest
Downloaded 20.0 megabytes in 2:00 seconds. (169.80 KB/s)

Local Speedtest

My usage tracker showed a constant speed while doing the test. Also like I mentioned that browsing and youtube is fine. This is why I am thinking that it is something else on my side...

It seems like its P2P that gives trouble. Is Steam also not P2P when downloading?

Its going between 140-220 KB/s I'd say probably averaging 180/190 KB/s.

I also want to point out I have used Steam on this PC as well as torrenting before on another connection without any hassles.

And you are saying that this affects all downloads? Could you do something for me - please change your DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Still the same.

Just to clarify my previous post normal http seems fine. Steam/torrents are the problem.

What it could be is the multiple connections of steam/utorrent is overloading the router/phone, causing it to have mini resets. Would it be possible for you to post a router log (if your router supports logging)

I can only see security logs. It's not that right?

From my router's "Help":
A log is a detailed record of the websites that users on your network have accessed or attempted to access. If you have set up content filtering on the Block Sites screen, the Logs screen shows you when someone on your network tried to access a blocked site. If you have e-mail notification on, you will receive these logs in an e-mail message. If you do not have e-mail notification set up, you can view the logs here.

Click Clear Log to delete all the log entries.

Click Refresh to see the most recent access attempts.

Click Send Log to send the log file to your e-mail account. This feature can be very useful for testing your e-mail settings.

Syslog

The Logs can be send to a Syslog server. Enable one of these three options, as required:

Disable - Select this if you don't have a Syslog server.
Broadcast on LAN - the Syslog data is broadcast, rather than sent to a specific Syslog server. Use this if your Syslog Server does not have a fixed IP address.
Send to this Syslog server IP address - If your Syslog server has a fixed IP address, select this option, and enter the IP address of your Syslog server.

I PMed the log to you. It doesn't look like much so doubt it will help...

If you had a 1Mbps uncapped account, will your account automatically be upgraded to 2Mbps when your line is upgraded?

This is correct, provided your ISP is TI. Not sure about the other ISPs.

I dunno... Maybe I should just take my desktop to my parent's house and check there, where it worked last. A pity I only have my work laptop here as another device, have no admin rights so can't test anything on it :(
