As in a previous posting, Ask SAIX and TelkomInternet for the "Shareholders Register", they are not allowed to deny you access to it... this will tell you exactly who is wearing the pants.

Thats a good idea. Hasnt Debbie tried to get this and just got given the run around? If I am wrong, soz.

Perhaps get a group of people together and all go to the headoffice and demand to see it. If they dont give it to you, pick up your MTN phones and start phoning the all the press contacts that you can informing them that Telkom is breaking the law by denying you access to it.

Go to their offices... phoning wont help... if there is a group, count me in... I have done it to another "Independant" originasation only to find all the directors were politicians.

Yawn. Telkom cannot change it's pricing or structure. Telkom and ONLY Telkom is subject to PRICE REGULATIONS. Icasa put forward these regulations in July already. They cannot interfere with their OWN regulations, can they ?

RichardP, I think she, or someone did try once by going to their offices with no luck, but I might be wrong.

I took your idea and suggested that rpm request the doccie formally through his meeting with the Telkom hierachy, hope you dont mind.

DOTCO has succeeded in a temporary order until 5 December 2005 preventing Telkom from introducing usage based billing scheduled for 1 November.

It's a TelkomInternet ISP account
Ferreira decided to test a TelkomInternet package so he purchased a 3G ADSL account from TelkomInternet on the 1st of November.

I haven't read through the whole of this thread so please forgive me if I cover points already addressed by others.

I agree with the view that LoneGunman presented. If you want to take on someone the size of Telkom you have to do it properly. And I admit I am one of those who will bitch from the sidelines but when push comes to shove I have other things to do. Yep, I am a leech riding on the back of the good work done by some many others. You have my admiration and gratitude.

That being said, I hope that the questionable ethics being raised by this news article work in all of our favour, rather than Telkom taking the view that it is easier to cap TelkomInternet users rather than uncap everyone else.
 
I think ALL the ISP's need to take Telkom to court on this. It is a conflict of interest. The biggest problem with South Africans is they never complain where it counts, they generally pay, and then moan about it later.
My experience in the exact same situation:
I have a software package that I sell to at wholesale to companies who then sell it to the public. My company also sold the product to the public but I was told to stop public sales as it was a conflict of interest, purely because I have the power to see it cheaper than my agents even though I never did. the fact was that I could if i wanted to. The same applies for Telkom. Frankly I don't believe that Telkom should be allowed to operate as an ISP at all and I think the ISP's have the power to stop them, they just need to unite.

Telkom and SAIX are used in the same context when a Radio DJ wants to slag someone off...

Mr DJ : "I think XYZ is a ****head" = Lawsuit
Mr DJ : "Mr HankyPoo says XYZ is a ****head" = nothing.... you cant sue a NON entitiy

Telkom says "SAIX does it" and SAIX says "Its up to the ISP to cap"
gotta get them both in a boxing ring and slog it out...

Are they public or private companies. Because if they are private they don't have to.
 
Telkom SAIX and TelkomInternet are divisions in Telkom SA Ltd, Reg no 1991/005476/06.
 
Telkom hardcapping their wholesale products while keeping their retail products uncapped locally is completely unfair.

Yes, thats true - but Telkom is stock exchange listed ;-) hence, public.
