Telkom's billion rand software spending

From what I have heard they are doing the move for good reason. the cost though is another story.

I've never understood the crazy cost of software like this. Logically, the price comparison should be against in-house developed software. For R1.2bn you can employ a couple of thousand systems analysts, project managers and developers for a year but you'd need a fraction of that to develop a custom CRM. So with just 10%, R120m, you could setup and run an awesome development team for at least a year if not longer, and even that would be over the top.

A company call sell Telkom their initial software licence for free and still make a mint from all the integration work required into Telkom's multiple systems, followed by maintenance licensing and rework.
