telkomsa.net outgoing email issue

Good day

I'm trying to help a lady who can receive email on her iPad but can't send. She has a telkomsa.net email address and can send and receive when she's at home (Telkom ADSL) but as soon as she's off the Telkom network she can't send emails from this address. The error message says: "The recipient ...@... was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying.".

I have turned on the following SMTP servers:
smtp.vodacom.co.za
smtp.dsl.telkomsa.net
smtp.saix.net

Any ideas are welcome.

Somebody said in a similar thread you should try changing the smtp server from smtp.dsl.telkomsa.net to just smtp.telkomsa.net ?

(I'd give credit, but I can't remember who it was.)
 
Thanks for the help but it's still not working. Any more ideas?
 
I have Telkom and Afrihost as ISP. If I am connected using Afrihost I have the same problem, this is at home so I just disconnect from Afrihost and connect using Telkom.

It cannot be the mail server, I have not bothered to look into it because if I use my tablet or am away from home I use Telkom's web client.

This is a long shot, but have you tried smtp.uls.co.za

That guy was running a redirecting server, but I don't know if it is still active.
 
Didn't work either. I also tried smtp.internet.co.za but got the error message "The recipient ...@... was rejected by the server.".
 
OK, can you create a gmail address for the lady and set the gmail address to check her Telkom account?
Then you can either just use the gmail client, or use Gmail's servers in the mail client.
You can set up Gmail so that it is invisible and works as if it is the Telkom address.
 
I've gone the GMail route and it's working. Hopefully she'll be happy with the workaround.

I hope you get suitably rewarded for it... with milk and cookies!

The added benefit is that all her e-mail is now being backed up in Google.
 
Hi Guys,

I am helping someone with a similar issue. They changed from TI to another ISP and now they can't send email. Or rather, the emails go out but they are never delivered. Can anyone confirm that it is indeed the case that you must connect via TI to their outgoing server?

So I have a TelkomSA.net email address. I would like to use Gmail as the interface to send and receive the Telkom email to/from. It should also be better/easier to use/configure on my phone as can configure it as IMAP (which Telkom does not allow by default - only POP)

I have set up a new GMail account, and configured it via the website to collect, and "send another email address that I own"

Emails sent to my Telkom account are received in the Gmail inbox = great.

However I am unable to send any mails. I want my TelkomSA email account to be my primary (sent from) account. All mails sent must be from my TelkomSA address, even when composing in Gmail (either on PC or phone). If I specifically send from Gmail address, they work fine. I am connecting to web over wifi - mobile 3G (MTN), or another wifi (Telkom home adsl)

Where Gmail asks for the SMTP address, I have tried the following:
smtp.telkomsa.net
smtp.dsl.telkomsa.net
smtp.saix.net
mail.saix.net
smtp.saix.co.za
smtp.telkomsa.co.za

The only one that Gmail accepts, is the first one, smtp.telkomsa.net, on port 25, with an Unsecured Connection (see screenshot), but I still cannot send mails. I instantly get the following reply/error:

Delivery Status Notification (Failure)

Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the relay smtp.telkomsa.net [xxx.xxx.xx.xxx].

The error that the other server returned was:
554 5.7.1 <[email protected]>: Relay access denied

Gmail (on a pc, where this is configured) only allows for one SMTP address to be entered, and I'm using the Telkom one's, as I'm trying to send via the Telkom address - is this correct. I might be able to enter multiple SMTPs on the iPhone however.

I have been trying for days to get this working. Any help would be appreciated
 
Necro......

A friend of mine's dad uses Telkomsa.net for email.... Email works fine, but he cant send email to gmail accounts..... any idea where to check what is wrong ??

Same issue here, Mother in law brings here laptop up here to Namibia, connects to my wifi, can receive on her TelkomSA email, but cannot send, I have tried changing outgoing mail server settings to no avail!

Anyone?
 
So I thought I would be clever and give the old lady a new email address on a domain that I run for work, lo and behold, the exact same error on her laptop....

WTF is Relay Access Denied!

This is the common message on both email clients when trying to send...
