TelkomZA

My connection (Cape Town), 2Mbps via Telkom Internet has been erratic to unusable since the weekend. Currently using Afrihost which is working 100% fine.

Pretty frustrating to say the least...

I am happy to announce that after a month, of back and forth with Telkom techs and TelkomZA doing an awesome job, my latency issue appears to be resolved!

I have waited a long time to see a traceroute like this at this time of the evening:

Tracing route to www.google.co.za [74.125.233.88]

Once again, thank you Telkom for getting to this much better than the 10210 guys ever could :) To the rest of the forumites, I hope you have as much luck with getting your issues resolved :)

Thanks. I just phoned Telkom and cancelled your problem. It's resolved.

Why would you post a reference for the world to see?

ho sorry didn't realize but how that would be a problem?

Thank you TelkomZA for fixing my latency!! :D - has been perfect for 4 days straight! Finally I can play some online games again! :D

ADSL - Internet Disconnected | DSL Line stays synced.

Hi there

For the past year I have been getting a lot of disconnects that comes from the exchange. Below is the error messages that is displayed in my routers system log.

PPPoE: Serial link appears to be disconnected.

When this happens, the DSL line is still synced, so I do not think that it's got anything to do with the line itself, but rather the exchange.

My exchange is Blanco - 044 870

TelkomZA will you please get someone to come and check the exchange and fix what ever is wrong?

And for everyone else what do you think?

Hi. I PM"d you. I couldn't attach these in my PM so I have put them here for you to check. Thank you.

Hi TelkomZA,

Thanks for sorting out my line issues - my speed and latency is back to where it should be!

You guys ROCK!!!!!!!

Out of interest I would like to know if the call center people use a different computer system to everybody else in Telkom.

The other day after being told that our one office lines is VDSL capable I tried to phone Telkom Business new services department (10217) directly to try and order my new VDSL line, only to be told that I cannot get VDSL on the line because her system shows my line is maximum 10Mbit and it won't allow it. I then contact the Social Media team (and TelkomZA) to please sort it out and voila, magically I can get VDSL from them. Order is put through and should have it activated next week.

What gives?

What's the point of having a new services call center if you can't order new services from them?

Hi
We would like to connect with you, our customer, and make it easier for you to communicate and do business with us

Really now!
Still doesn't change the fact that I am taking your employer to court for refusing to fix my landline.

I am in the middle of being helped at the moment by Telkom, thanks to TelkomZA
Now I have the same problem as many here, pings go through the roof and downloads suck.

Now during our tests we find the following discrepancies so who is fooling who ?

This is a 2 mbit line.

According to the MyBroadband Speed tests currently we get the following:

Yet if you do a trace or a ping to any website in SA you get the following.

You do an actual download locally and it hovers around 50 KB/sec

So is the MyBroadand Speedtest is just a load of hogwash ?

Could be, your latency is way too high.

Can you do a tracert to a local website?
