TelkomZA

Telkom seems to have sorted out my ping, but my DL speeds seem a bit lower than what they used to be:

2mb line. Is this because of shaping?

Good Day

Your speed test is correct for a 2 meg service.
Your speed test results will changed if you have been soft capped

I'm having no joy... been now over a month since I requested a line and adsl transfer. From a remote place called Gonubie to Beacon Bay ... So far I don't even have a phone number yet, whilst my neighbours are surfing the net at 10meg. At least TelkomZA responded via PM (thanks), but not sure what to make of it, will I get a phone line at least in the next year.. ADSL in 2 years time ?

Hey TelkomZA, my exchange supports 10mbps and so does my line, but I only get 4mbps maximum. If my isp revs it up any more than 6 mbps the line drops/becomes extremely unstable, and while at 6mbps it works fine for an hour or two and then drops/becomes extremely unstable. When the telkom guy came to our house 2 days ago, he said that the line running from "the green box" to the exchange is badly deteriorating, and when he tried to set the ports from 6 mbps to 8 or 10, it was causing problems on the line.

Would calling telkom be a viable option, or waste of time? I've heard complaints that it takes weeks for their techs to pitch up, so I'm a bit sceptical here.

Test conducted on 7/18/2013 9:35:30 PM

Download Speed: 5348 kbps (668.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 411 kbps (51.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 31 ms

Hi TelkomZA, any feedback on the PM I sent you yesterday regarding the high latency in Wierda Park, Centurion? My Internet is unusable after 6PM.

Morning

Unfortunately ADSL maximum speeds are affected by distance and copper quality therefore even if 10meg is available in the exchange attainable speed will be limited by these factors.

Please PM me with your ADSL number and I will have a look and advise.

I had an adsl line installed on May 09, and got an uncapped Afrihost account on the same date. Everything worked really well until recently (july 10 I think?) when the line completely stopped working.

We got technical out and the guy fixed the line (he said he also had to reactivate it at the exchange?), however the line is not actually fixed because the router(telkom netgear) is still showing a red "internet" light. I know it's not my afrihost account because on their client control panel the account is shown as active, and I have also tried using the guest@telkomadsl account to no avail.

I bought a new modem and the problem remains exactly the same, all the correct settings and everything, so it's not a faulty modem.

Phoned tech support a few times and they insist that the line is fine.

I suspect a mix-up with the accounts department. I think the physical line is fine but the account has been de-activated at some point. I suspect this because when I pay my account on the telkom self-service portal, it reflects in my bank statements as going through, but the invoice then re-appears later on the telkom site. I already paid this month's bill twice:

Would you please look into this for me? Telkom support keeps telling me they can see *nothing* wrong with the line when clearly there is (even on the telkom guest account).

Morning

We are attending to your PM and will be providing feedback soonest, as for the Online Payments, unfortunately the system is not real time, so will only display the payment(s) on the next account.

So far Gavin has been really helpful in getting my problem resolved. Will see tonight when I get back from work and get a chance to reset the modem.
