Temu is exploding in South Africa

It boils down to low prices, reasonable shipping.

SA customers are cash strapped and any option where they can save a few bucks and still get a similar product they will take.

My most recent example, needed to buy a spare for my 3d printer, locally it was going to be nothing less than R650. On Temu, I got the spare, plus some additional upgrades for R600, shipped to my door (well, they will be when Buffalo works through its backlog)

I think also another reason is "it's the new hot sh@t" at the moment.

Think when Wish became popular few years ago for example.

So, probably in a few years time another china market place app opens up, where you can basically buy the same sh@t as the other china markets apps, and that will blow up in popularity.

I just received a message from Buffalo saying there will be a delay in my order due to the 'surge in orders', as well as network issues in their customer service department

I got this.
We have noticed that the tracking for your package has not been updated recently. We are contacting the carrier to verify the status of the package, which will take some time. We will update the tracking information as soon as possible.

I got this.
Do you get some type of credit if it's delayed ?
Is that a standard Temu thing ?

I get R20 of my R115 back if after 9 April (but I think as a credit on the account)

There’s a scandal where many people now have reported funds deducted by Temu way after purchase.

I’d suggest anyone to use a virtual card.

I use dedicated virtual cards for online purchases, that I then block when not using them.

So no unecessary extra charges, and if one of the vendors are hacked or whatever, I can just cancel said card.

I've had great service on all my orders so far. I've been refunded or received credit on any item I wasn't happy with.

Temu claims so and I am sure they will do so. 3 orders have been well within time so far.

Local online shops like TAL also source goods mainly from China.. Those chinese sellers are likely to have more organized clout than the direct ones on temu. Let us see. Till then, let us continue buying things we mostly don't need.
I though I had everything I ever wanted in life. Temu showed me otherwise,
I mean who doesn't need a 165 piece heat shrink sleeve set for R30
