Terror attack outside U.K. Parliament

'Embracing them' won't necessarily stop the attacks either. Their stated goal is to have the world converted to islam and run under sharia. You can't stop that by just being a peace loving hippy.

Not embracing jihadists - but the Muslims that oppose them, or are uninvolved. And that doesn't mean being a peace loving hippy either, it's a strategy. You'll always have the law enforcement aspect of it, from routine police work, arrest, taking out active guys etc. but there's also the more subtle intelligence process, which is done through mosques, community networking, empowerment etc. The point is to not give in to the over-arching terrorist strategy. Terrorism like this isn't an existential threat in Europe unless those societies abandon their values and way of life the way the terrorists want.

An interesting note on something I read in "The Way of Strangers" (which is fascinating by the way), is that jihadist recruiters have a hierarchy for determining who they target for recruitment.

They generally target people who have a religious background of sorts, but who aren't particularly religious now or abandoned it at some point, and also don't know very much about it - part of why so many of the European jihadists have criminal/drug/prostitution etc. histories. And also people who feel marginalised, looking for greater meaning (jihadism offers cosmic glory for example) and so on. So not poor or uneducated people necessarily, as the trope often goes.

And last on their list of who to target are devout Muslims who know the Koran and the have studied it etc. In a way it insulates them against the recruitment strategy, which is to provide very black & white & rigid answers to everything.

How haven't peace loving, moderate muslims been embraced by the UK? Yeah, and that sure has been working out great. They're using the left's weak, PC policies to infiltrate and destroy their enemies from within because it's the only way they can.

Left, PC policies? You mean from the right wing Conservative Party government that's been there for 7 years?

Peace-loving Muslims ARE embraced by the UK. When I lived in the UK, they could do no wrong. But I think the worm has turned. The atmosphere is decidedly different 10 years later. People are tired of being tolerant and then to be told it isn't good enough. Hence Brexit.

Yes, and the extremists have been working hard to change that. The growth of anti Islam sentiment over the past number of years is engineered and is part of the extremists objectives. It's not just about tolerance. It's important that the moderate Muslims are allies with the West in the fight against extremism. It's not a war the west can win without such alliances. The USA depends on such alliances in it's fight against terror. The war here is not just between Islam and the West, there is a battle within Islam itself between the extremists and the moderate and it's playing out violently in many Muslim countries. If the west alienates it's Muslim allies by grouping all of Islam as the enemy, then the extremists have achieved their objective. If peaceful Muslims are denied entry into the west they have no where else to go but back to battle and many will be absorbed into the extremist culture which will then grow bigger.

Just pointing out that embracing won't necessarily stop it by itself as was expressed earlier. Even if you embrace non-radical muslims, it won't stop the radicals from wanting to bomb you into oblivion.

If you hate them you're helping them achieve their objective aren't you? But the objective is bigger that that. They don't want the west to just hate them, they want the west to hate all Muslims everywhere. All part of the great war they want and you're basically being their patsy and responding exactly according to their plan. Maybe the left are trying to prevent them from achieving their objective - if peace loving Muslims are embraced by the west then the extremists haven't got a chance at success. If they are instead hated and alienated they have no where to go but to Muslim countries run by extremists, more soldiers for their great jihad. Love is the only solution here, not hate.

I agree,at first even I reserved judgement on ISIS but I quickly realised what they were and distanced myself from them.It took the greater Muslim world population more time to come to the realisation that ISIS is not of us or a true khalifat, but the Muslim world has realised that for a while now and ISIS is running out of steam they only get a few easy to brainwash idiots these days but the vast majority of muslims world wide have denounced them and will not support them.

They(ISIS) and their warmongering idiots are in dire straits without the support of the greater Muslim world, alienating ordinary muslims will just push more than the current 0.01 percent of the almost two bilion towards joining these radical groups and play right into their hands.Without broad support they are nothing.

Well now that is something, although you can see from the way he talks why people assumed it was him.

Sure, but it presents the best chance of countering it. It reduces their recruitment pool and gives you access to intelligence networks you wouldn't otherwise have.

BREAKING NEWS

The Daily Mail is now reporting that there were TWO TERRORISTS involved in this incident.

Isn't it two people killed. I was thinking two terrorists until realising it was a civilian and police officer killed. Likely three if the terrorist doesn't make it.

A British MP whose brother died in the Bali terror attack tried in vain to save the life of a policeman who was stabbed just inside the gates of the parliamentary estate.

UK Foreign Minister Tobias Ellwood tried to give the officer mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and stemmed the blood flow by applying pressure to the wounds. Ellwood, a former soldier, remained with the injured officer waiting for the air ambulance to arrive, which landed in Parliament Square.

He was later seen with bloodied hands talking to officers before returning to the Foreign Office.

:(
