I know there is a TEXo rep here somewhere just no diea where to find him :D

Anyway,

I want to create a guild website+forum and host Ventrilo via the domain. I want to know if TEXO can and will do this ?

Fk me these guys are awesome !

They have agreed to install Ventrilo and give it a shot. If it affects their server performance they will remove it with no cost to me what so ever. They are even giving me a trail run. Now just to sign up :p

Yup they are great. I registered a while ago perfectly smooth. And cheap too.

Problem is I never use my site. :( (any ideas on what to do with it:D)

Go Texo Go.

I signed up for the 16GB package for R 45 a month with some addons. Only R 70 a month. very good price I must say. I just did the EFT and all is sorted :p

Note that like most local cheap hosting their servers are in the US. The only benefit that I see of using them compared to cheap overseas guys is that the support is:
- on the same timezone
- they will sometime offer faster email support responses
- you can do easy EFT or cash payment into their account vs overseas which require paypal or CC.

Given that they host overseas if you reach your Telkom ADSL cap you can't access your site as it's not local. For some of my clients that's a deal breaker.

Generally though I know a couple of ppl which host with Texo and they say positive things about them. It's nice to be able to get a human on the phone/email then your site is not working :)

Thats why I go with WebOnline for small sites @ low cost (R15) and Hetzner for sites needing more storage at a slightly higher cost (R98)

Yeah - I host all of my sites overseas - they're not SA-centric so it makes sense. For less than $4 per month I can host an unlimited number of domains (with unlimited space/traffic) - maybe one day we'll be offered something similar locally but until then . . .

It'll probably be that "local only" as we now know it will vanish before we're given such cheap options. Then the only benefit to hosting locally will be the reduced latency.
