The 200,000+ km thread

2015 VW Caddy 2.0TDI 80kw 7 seater. Only problem was before 190K, gearbox destroyed itself, 5th gear on these is very weak. Bought a gearbox from a 1.9TDI for 5.5K and installed it my self, actually goes much better with the differt gear ratios.

Was it just a straight swap, no electronics issues?

None of these gearboxes have any electronics. The gear indicator on the dash is calculated from the engine ECU taking speed and RMP into consideration, you cant fit a 6 speed as the engine ECU will throw out a fault, unless you know how to reprogram it. All of the VW / Audi diesel gearboxes are actually the same. The one I bought is from the UK and came from either a Passat Diesel of Golf Plus Diesel (googled the gearbox code) . The gear ratios are a bit different, the box I bought has a longer 1st and 2nd and 3rd - 4th - 5th are actually shorter, just make sure that the final drive is the same 3.6

Oh there is a slight difference. The gearbox I bought the hole centers where the CV attaches to is 100mm, on the gearbox that came out of the car they are 108mm, so its just a matter of swapping them around.

I would take a guess at a minimum of R50,000... you don't have to replace them if you don't want to (I believe)

When the same thing happened in the USA, Hyundai gave the customer a new car. Although, it was a million miles so give or take 1.6 million kilometers
