Surely, to make this thread more useful, you need to detail how much maintenance and repairs cost you not only whether your car made it past 200 000km.
Then it will be possible to judge whether keeping a car is better than selling up and getting something newer.
So its been expensive. But another way to think about it is, if I were to buy a car for R120k today, what kind of car could I get? Not something with an automatic gearbox and a 3.2L engine, I can tell you that.
Hyell. That's probably more expensive than the R40k in repairs...

2002 Ford Mondeo: 272000km. Still going strong. Mostly city traffic.
My Mondeo is a 2002 model, bought in 2006 for R120000.
Since 2006, I have maintained it rigorously, replacing whatever needs to be replaced, servicing on schedule with synthetic oil, etc. etc. Total maintenance cost since 2006 has been R100000.
Per year:
2006 R 650.00
2007 R 12 525.18
2008 R 1 203.00
2009 R 20 101.00
2010 R 14 590.09
2011 R 7 355.47
2012 R 15 220.96
2013 R 28 064.00
Major stuff done: fuel pump, water pump, most suspension bushes and mounts, engine mounts, shock absorbers, aircon compressor, clutches (R5-10K each time!), a couple of CV joints, and a door lock. I drive almost exclusively city traffic, which is hell on clutch, brake pads and discs, and tyres.
:erm:
+1 Seems like it's been falling apart.
+1.
He's spent more on it than I've spent on my Merc (since out of motorplan) per year, and it gets about 35000km a year.
