The 2013 Transfer Rumours Thread

Torres scored the majority of his goals in the europa league against second rate opposition. How many Prem goals did he score? I know the transfer fees you paid for torres was alot, therefore its hard to let him go, and you desperately want him to do well... but let it go. He is a flop

They may not be CL winners, but the four teams in the Europa League semis were all former Champions League winners, and either domestic champions or runners up.

Still hard to call someone a flop when he has helped his team win two European trophies in a row, and helping them to a unique English record in the process...

You're also forgetting that he (along with Mata) was the first player to hold the European Cup, Europa League, European Championship and World Cup trophies concurrently.

But yes, that 50mil will always hang over his head, as if he decided on the fee. He has done a decent job for us, especially this season.

A trophy that not even Arsenal can win, and you jokers have the never to gloat... LOL...

You are quite correct. However there is a reason Arsenal can't win the Europa League. Take a moment, let your thoughts go. I am sure it'll come to you.

I'll give you a clue. It's the same reason why we can't win La Liga.

It's because you can't win the FA Cup nor the League Cup to even get into the competition... But of course, making up the numbers and being thumped by teams likely to win the CL is the Arsenal way...

I'll give you a clue. It's the same reason why Wigan can't win the PL.

This is more accurate.

In the EPL he scored 14 in 64 appearences (20 subs) since his arrival so my initial thought was that he is a bit of a flop, but I forgot he's won 3 trophies so at 50mil he was quite the bargain.

Yes, Torres was solely responsible for winning you that trophies.

Actually it's because we make it out of the group stages of the Champions League, unlike Chelsea who couldn't even manage that. The only defending champions in the history of the competition not to do so. That is nice a record to be proud of.

Saying we can't win the EPL, League Cup or FA cup is a bit untruthful.

13 1st Division Titles (EPL)
10 FA Cups
2 League Cups

This is fun, but if you're going to make stuff up then I am not playing anymore.

Would rather have a record stating that, then having the same success rate in the competition as Hull. It's easy to talk big when you haven't won the competition isn't it? :)

Nine years and counting... explain how this is untruthful?

3 1st Division Titles (EPL)
10 FA Cups
2 League Cups

So in other words: we have become Liverpool circa 10 years ago. How long before the "it's our year" comments start?

For the record- you haven't qualified for the CL as yet. You still have qualifiers to play- with the "Europa League calibre" teams. And I sincerely hope that they put you lot in your place. Perhaps then you will learn to respect trophies, given how difficult it seems to be for your team to win any.

If you expect one player to carry the responsibility of winning a football game, then you shouldn't be watching football...

But Torres was solely responsible. The best thing he did for your team was sit on the bench during difficult games and not mess up. But I have to admit, as a Liverpool fan, I was heartbroken when Torres left. At least he is a gentleman when he plays against us. Most players don't celebrate when they play against their old team... but Torres? To not score against us, game after game, after game. WHAT A GENTLEMAN

Jamie Carragher summed it up best:

Liverpools top 5 transfers:
5. Hyypia
4. Mcallister
3. Fowler
2. Suarez

and then

1. Torres to Chelsea

What a legend Carra is. :D

I agree its difficult for my team to win trophies, can't argue that. If we spend 90mil and only bring home the Europa League however I won't be on here bragging about it.

Thanks for the banter, however after all this I remain unconvinced that Torres is anything other than a 50mil flop.

I mean even Frank Lampard beats him when it come to min/goal and he is a 50 year old midfielder.

Wenger apparently has confirmed interest in France Under 21 Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier... £8million rated. The next Nasri. Meh...

Seems like Lewandowski is joining Bayern? Pity. I was hoping to see him in the EPL next season.

Hopefully Fabregas sees his future lies away from Barcelona and he um... comes home :D

Cough...Cough...Andy Carroll. :p

Lol Andy Carrol was bought of Torres change. The way I see it. We got Carrol + Sturridge + 3 million in exchange for Torres. Good deal. Especially since we getting 15 Million back for Carrol

If that is true, you got to be kidding me. Bayern raiding Dortmund. 1st Gotze and now Lewandowski. I know Dortmund is no where near as big as Bayern, but why would Dortmund sell all there big name players and to top it off, sell them to there biggest rivals.

AND Fabregas is HOME :D

They are retesting his DNA, apparently there was some kind of mix up a few years back and its has come to light that Xavi doesn't have a PHD in genetics as was previously thought. :p:D

Would love nothing more that to see him back in an Arsenal shirt, but I fear that will never happen.

With the gavel apparently having fallen Bargain Hunt style on a £51.3m bid for Atlético Madrid striker Radamel Falcao and Porto's James Rodríguez and Joao Moutinho already in the bag, Chelsea centre-half Branislav Ivanovic is next on the shopping list of money-bags Monaco. The newly promoted Ligue 1 side's Russian owner Dmitry Rybolovlev is, as we speak, moistening his thumb and preparing to peel off £25m in used tenners, but incoming Chelsea manager José Mourinho isn't interested.

The Special One is, however, interested in retaining the services of Michael Essien at Stamford Bridge, having had the Ghanaian midfielder on loan at Real Madrid for the season just gone. He also wishes to bring Vitesse Arnhem's Holland Under-21 box-to-box midfielder Marco van Ginkel to London. And with his Chelsea contract due to expire next month after a season spent exiled to train with the young 'uns, Chelsea winger Florent Malouda will resurrect his career at Lyon.

Rumour Mill staple, Napoli striker and all around Uruguayan Adonis Edinson Cavani tops Real's wanted list, but his £52m get-out clause means the Spanish side may try to prise Luis Suárez away from Liverpool instead, reports The Sun.

The Spanish side also want Gareth Bale, say the Daily Mail, but then doesn't everyone? An offer of £65m will test the mettle of Spurs chairman Daniel Levy. Meanwhile in Italy, the Corriere Dello Sport maintains that Cavani will head to Manchester City, while their news-stand rivals Tuttosport say Juventus still want Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez and are also plotting to derail Arsenal's efforts to bring Fiorentina's Stevan Jovetic to London. Lyon midfielder Clément Grenier is French, 22 and obviously wanted by Arsenal.

And PSG manager Carlo Ancelotti, himself believed to be in line to take over from Mr Mourinho at Real Madrid, has poured icy cold water over speculation suggesting that moody Swedish superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic has asked to leave the French champions because he misses Italy and wants to return to Juventus. "This is not true, he did not ask to leave the club," harrumphed the Italian. "Our relationship is good, as it is with other players." So now you know.
Just think of it with Cristiano Ronaldo Madrid would be the cock capital of the world

ok carvalho to monaco.
then monaco splash another 70M on that Porto Pair..
could this be signs of Mourinho to Monaco?
