Everyone is different so I don't know if anything is frikken normal but i can offer some (hopefully) helpful comments:
  • 800g is start. Well done :)
  • Weighing yourself weekly is in my view optimal - people who track their progress tend to self regulate. Our weight fluctuates too much day to day to make that very useful but weighing weekly, you can take corrective action sooner rather than later if you don't get the results you want.
  • Review the last couple of weeks - were there any days where you might not have adhered in some way to your plan? Consider the calorie target you have set and how accurately you have been measuring your intake and expenditure - if you have been adherent but are not losing as quickly as you would like, maybe you have room to target a slightly more aggressive calorie defecit
  • As you lose weight, your BMR will go down and you will have to adjust your target cals - not sure 800g would make that much of a difference but you could recalculate based on your current weight and see.
  • Adhere strictly to your diet for at least 30 days in the beginning to build the good habits and give it a chance to begin working
  • If you haven't already, add in some light exercise or activity. Eating the same and expending another 100 or 200 calories even a day could make a difference. you can burn 100 calories a day by fidgeting while sitting in your chair at work apparently - a half hour walk per day or getting up from you desk and doing a micro workout every hour might be better plan though!
Hope that helps.

Thanks so much, yeah think i'm going to start adding more exercise into my plan. Still early days but was hoping to see a bit more of a result.

My weekly weigh in is every Friday morning after I have woken up, keep it exactly the same. I also log everything, coffee, water, salads, the odd sweetie I add in to not go insane. I've also got a strict weekly meal plan that is for normal people... Chicken 2 days, Fish 2 days, Red Meat 2 days and take-aways on a Friday night.

My 2c ... do not just focus on the scale. Take your measurements as well.

I use MyFitnessPal to record my calories. I’m usually well below my required calories.

That’s because I fast 20 hours, so basically only have one meal per day, dinner

Long story short, I tried what you are saying in 2015 it didn't work

I still stick in my real experience, Reduce sugar related products like biscuits

Even if you take 24 hrs phyical exercise if you are sugar lovers you are wasting your time

BF now has to commute to and from an office in Jhb because the new boss is a twat, so our routines are out of whack. Last walked on Sunday, and we're now 3 days behind on kettlebell, but will catch up at some point...

Trying to figure out how to do the feed a family thing when you both only get home after six first  I need the curfew to disappear so we can do our 4am walks again. Though actually getting ourselves out of bed that early again is another challenge all together.

This...
Having a poo can drop 500gm to 1kg.
A cup of coffee will account for 300gm alone (1ml water = 1gm weight).
Also make sure your scale is reasonable. I have one that has me stuck on 90 and I've lost 4 kg since then.
Perfect example of this today. I weighed 86.2 just yesterday and this morning 85.4
This is the first time I've ventured to the 85s since before lockdown. Basically I got up, had a p and weighed myself in my PJs.
Consistently doing that will give me the most accurate results bar what's in my bowels.
For a fun fact, weigh before and after a poo to see how much your bowls can hold lol.
I had a good weight workout yesterday so possibly a bit more dehydrated but I'll take 85.
Goal is 79 but with weights I may just pick up one or two so I'm not expecting it to be quick.

The 85s, I remember them strongly.
Those were good days

Slow cooker? Prep the night before or early morning before work and then let it cook low and slow all day?

Not a bad suggestion, but I also don't want to make massive meals (two adults and a 13 yo). I think this is an excellent idea for feeezer meals that I can prep ahead on weekends though :giggle:

Tonight is burger patties on the gas braai with salad (and a roll for the minion)

Nah 85 is too skinny for me, it's not sustainable. High 80s, low 90s is where I feel the best.
Absolutely, it all depends on your goals, height etc. etc.
For me the acid test is... Can I do 20 pull-ups and 40 dips? If yes, I'm happy.

I disagree.
You can go on a biscuit only diet and still lose or indulge in eggs, meat fish an nuts and gain.
It's mostly about creating a calorie deficit.

I prefer daily weight check so it's easier to gauge what is working and what isnt working and then adjust on a day to day basis.
Its also more disapointing when the weekly check doesn't generate results.
Over 40 your metabolism drops alarmingly so exercise becomes more of a priority.

Also very important that when on a caloric deficit it's essential to eat enough protein to maintain your muscle mass, otherwise your metabolism slows down even more and you burn less calories.

Always cut calories from carb and fat intake first.
