The Anni Dewani Murder Case

By the way, what happened to Lancelot?
Had a melt down on the mods and the ban hammer came down on him.

First look in a mirror, then look at Skynews, then look at the mirror again ...

Absolute ignorance is bliss ...
I would like to see how you tie this imaginary 'world cup good will' to this? You ignorantly think criminals care about a world cup or not.

Thread title is misleading:

Police have not yet said how she died.

The woman was dead on the back seat. A post-mortem would be held to determine what caused her death, Traut said.

He declined to answer questions about how she died or about the incident, including whether anything had been stolen from the couple.

The criminals don't care but the rest of the world does ...

From Skynews article :

South Africa has one of the highest crime rates in the world, with about 46 murders a day.

The statistic led to a massive increase in security during the 2010 World Cup, which attracted thousands of tourists.

Authorities in the scenic Western Cape, one of the nation's top tourist destinations, urged visitors and locals to be "prepared for potential danger".

guess they believed what the government wanted the world to believe during the world cup - all is good and safe in S, the crime is exaggeration. Welcome to the real South Africa

Last time I went to the Cape Flats I felt very unsafe and it was during the day and I'm a black man.

oh the horror :(

I cannot begin to imagine the grief that man must feel now. I hope I never go through that.

Who said it does? Just wondering what the crime to tourist ratio is here.

There are a lot of tourists in the Cape, especially during summer (mainly Nov to March).

But the problem here is the excessive violence, somewhat of a SA feature.

Robbing tourists happens in many places over the world, typically without (seriously) harming them.

I know most British tourists have a fetish for townships but this doesn't add up. They suddenly decide to go into a township at night and get lost then the wife ends up being shot but the husband is released unharmed and the "hijacked" vehicle is found.

So why not kill the husband too? What was stolen and where did the hijackers disappear too?

As a South African living in the UK, SA is not at the top of my list of holiday destinations. Last time I went back, the nice black lady at customs was wearing the ID of some white Afrikaans chick. Walking through the shopping centers you could feel the tension. Everyone seems to be on high alert.

No thanks. Fortunatly the air fare is ridiculously expensive(£1300 compared to £800 to the US or less than £300 to European cities), that I can tell the family that I can't afford it because life in the UK us so bloody tough.

Maybe the intention was not to kill the wife at the time that the husband was released.

Maybe they wanted to have a bit of fun, but things went too far, and maybe she threatened them (with the authorities) - and they didn't want a witness. And too late to go back for the husband.

There was a similar case a few years ago when a Polish honeymoon couple were attacked at Sterkfontein dam, with similar consequences (wife raped & attempted murder, husband killed) - also a lot of bad press.

Too much speculation in your post.

Some of my wifes colleagues had a similar incident. No one got murdered but the hijackers dropped the man of in Diepsloot(though unharmed) and took the woman with the car. Guess what happened to her. But she wasn't killed.
