The Anni Dewani Murder Case

Something about the story doesn't add up; why on earth did they go there at that time of night? Also, their driver should have known better. We all know crime in SA is violent and nonsensical, but because of a poor bit judgement it gives the country a poorer image than I think it deserves. Hopefully they nail these critters quickly!

It is the "politically correct" double standard indoctrination that goes on in Britain. How dare you make judgements and conclusions based on statistics and numbers, it may be logically sound, but by God it's immoral innit? You must give everyone and everything that is not white and English, the benefit of the doubt until you are proven wrong. If that leads to your death, so be it.

Terribly sad when a union is cut short so soon no matter what the circumstance.

We all know by now what is going on in South Africa. Even the European areas over there are dangerous but to enter the wasp's nest at night ! ! ! - WTF you are definitely looking for trouble. And the driver was sooo irresponsable . . . Just imagine her last minutes. She must have feared for her life and begged them - to no avail . . . What a sad story.

Its really sad in the way she died but let's face the fact, there will never be an end to hearing news like this. It's the society we as humans have created around us. Remember everything happens for a reason. Every action has to and will always lead to a reaction.

As sad as it is, these tourists should have known better than to go into a township at night

With a mentality like the one shown in this post, its no-wonder SA is in a bad state. The same thinking also spawns 'Women who dress provocatively are asking to be raped'
Sorry Rosaudio, the 'They should have known better' is a cop-out lame excuse. Do sat-navs know what a township is? I dont know where townships are anymore as all the names of places have changed to their 'African' names.

As Alestorm posted, They should have been informed, but there is a problem with that - You have to ADMIT there is a problem before you can CURE it!

against what people in SA think, the rest of the world dont know how violent SA is... and the only anecdotal evidence is the bitter and twisted Saffer Expat who's horror stories sound like a gross exaggeration. The rest of the world DONT really care what happens in the basket-case called Africa.

You know, there is a saying: 'Every society gets the exact number of criminals it deserves'. Look at Australia's political scene. Why do you think they are 'fighting to death' to not let any illegal immigrants in their country. France and England are learning it the hard way. Germany is on the way there too if they do not wake up. Unfortunately I belive for South Africa is already too late. If the public at large is standing up then obviously their government has let them down. You know in South Africa the public is expected to organise themself against criminals. Neighbourhood watch patrols and 'sector policing' are some of the terms used. I have a handfull of European (German) internet friends, residing in South Africa and they will tell you stories which may just as well come out of a horror movie :( Apparently people are getting robbed and murdered at night, right into their own houses ! ! ! The police terms that 'house robbery'. And that's quite widespread despite private security, electric fences, alarms, etc etc. WTF

So who is going to admit that there is a problem ? Definitely not the ANC / Government / Police !

As to why did they go there at night, many townships were advertised as "the place to go" for the end of an evening during the worldcup. To quote fifa's website:

Afterwards, you could take a drive to the nearby township known as Gugulethu (loosely translated as ‘our pride'). Gugulethu was at the heart of anti-apartheid activities during the long struggle in South Africa. Around midday, look for the popular Mzoli braai place (barbeque) and sample some Umngqusho Nenyama (samp and beans with stew). Tt is one of the hang-out spots for many Capetonians, some of whom drive all the way from the suburbs to indulge in the delicious meat and Xhosa cuisine. This tour of the townships could conclude with a visit to Khayelitsha, another centre of considerable historical significance in South Africa.

1. Why did their hotel / travel agency / consular office not carry warnings about dangerous areas best to be avoided?

2. What kind of pathetic and uninformed driver did they have that could not have warned them, when they asked to be taken there, that 23:00 is not a good place to be hanging out there ?

3. On News24, it was mentioned that a "manhunt" will be launched for the killers. I trust the SAPS will also launch manhunts for the killers of our own citizens ???????

I had the exact same thoughts when a mouth piece came on the radio this morning to promise a 'manhunt'. Our cops are pathetic in that they only really ever mount an investigation when the country's image may be tarnished or when a case goes high profile. There are countless cases where all the police do is document & pick up the body and it just ends there.

Terrible stuff.

And for everyone who didn't read the article - they had a driver... who is presumably a local. He/She should've known better, not the happy couple.

And Rosaudio... why do you say the comments section is filled with 'ignorant Brits' ? A few of the top-rated comments come from South Africans!

True. It has pretty much come down to your case being ignored unless -

1. you are a VIP,
2. you are a foreigner and your country puts pressure on the SA govt, or lastly,
3. you take it to the media who exposes the craptastic police work and the negelct and keep the case alive by constant reporting.

Whoosh !! There goes all the SWC goodwill - and now the UK press can claim that they were right all along !

This is South Africa, the land of the corrupt, my first thought was that the driver was part of it....maybe tipped off his buddies.

guess they believed what the government wanted the world to believe during the world cup - all is good and safe in S, the crime is exaggeration. Welcome to the real South Africa
