The Anni Dewani Murder Case

I can understand (but not condone!!) when people commit murder in the heat of the moment, with no pre-planning, but for the life of me I cannot fathom how someone can plan a crime beforehand (like Dewani allegedly did) and decide that the police are idiots and that they will never be caught.

Do these people never read news articles? Have they never heard of criminals being caught, even in cases where they thought they have committed the 'perfect crime'?

Although, if he is innocent of the charges against him, he is really living through a real nightmare, would be enough to send me over the edge too...
 
Anni's Family 'Satisfied' with Ruling

Anni Dewani's family is satisfied with a court decision to extradite honeymoon murder suspect Shrien Dewani to South Africa, the British Press Association reported on Wednesday.

"For us, it is all about Anni, it's all about finding out what happened," said her sister Ami Denborg.

"We will fight this battle to the end and this battle has just begun."

Dewani is accused of ordering the killing of his new wife Anni, 28, who was shot as the couple travelled in a taxi on the outskirts of Cape Town in November 2010. So far three men have been convicted of Anni's death.

Denborg said the family hoped for a speedy recovery for Dewani so he was fit to plead. However, the court's decision did not necessarily bring any relief.

"We just want to know what happened to Anni, and this is one step. It's been really hard on the family. We are struggling every day."

Referring to her father Vinod Hindocha, she said: "Every single time there's a hearing he stands there, watching, seeing and thinking about Anni. She is always with us."

Earlier, the Westminster Magistrate's Court in London ruled that Dewani should be extradited to South Africa to stand trial.

Chief Magistrate Howard Riddle made the ruling despite arguments by Dewani's defence team that he could suffer setbacks in his mental health if he was sent back to South Africa now.

They wanted the decision delayed by six months. The 33-year-old British businessman was earlier diagnosed with depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Dewani has undergone treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder and depression since his wife's death.

Innocent until proven guilty. However, things like these must make you wonder:

1. If any other reasonable man were innocent, he would be here in a heartbeat trying to clear his name.
2. How does one explain the cctv footage of him meeting Zola Tongo a day or two after the murder?
3. What man would agree to his wife's alleged request to go into a dangerous area at night to see "the real Africa"?

I'm not saying he is innocent, I've no idea - however, presume for the sake of argument, that he is innocent.

First he suffered the severe truama of being kidnapped, having his wife taken away from him and killed.
That would be enough on it's own to severly traumatize someone (PTSD) especially someone from outside the country who is not desensitized to violence as most South Africans are. Then, on top of that, he is accused of being involved in the murder and is wanted, in jail, in the same country where his wife was killed and violence is rife. On top of the trauma he is terrified of what might happen to him if he returns. If he is innocent of the charges he is havng the crappiest life ever, I'm not surprised he doesn't want to deal with it.

Like most people, I suspect he must have been involved, I don't see why he would be implicated if not - the other accused have nothing to gain by falsly implicating him - I was just thinking, imagine if he was totally innocent, how fckd up his life suddenly became.

No doubt, but most people have a hard time conjuring up the notion that he may be innocent; they don't even want to consider it.
 
it's time for this farce to come to an end and get this dude here once and for all. all this appealing is getting rather tiresome. his so called PTSD suddenly increases when there is a hearing and he becomes unkempt yet during the months before the hearing he looks just fine.
