The Antenna Waiting Area

what about this type of antenna?

it looks cheap and should be fairly decent. 5dB is not much but it could be the difference between connecting and not connecting. are there any good antennas with high dBs under R500 (post URLs if applicable)

That's a good explanation, Rodent.

About receiver sensitivity, the guy says we ignore it cause mostly we can't do anything about it. Well maybe we can. Many MyWireless users have complained in a another topic about their modems getting really hot. A hot receiver will certainly be less sensitive (some guys even reported disconnecting when their modems get really hot, but that's probably more like a pc freezing when the CPU gets too hot). Nevertheless, maybe then its a good idea to cool the modem as much as possible. This will increase the receiver sensitivity. How much I am not sure.

I think Noone mentioned that he is using his aircon to cool his modem. I wonder, Noone, if you have noticed a difference in your signal/packet loss/ping times when you are not cooling your modem?
