The Asic thread

Thank you all for the replies. Really do appreciate it. Will head over to the office later to gain access to the D3 and will post logs.

Do s anyone know if it is possible to get access to the miner without actually being on the local network? Leaving a pc on overnight for teamviewer etc is costing extra electricity..

Funny enough it doesn't have the optional check box to shut it down at 80% (Miner settings tab). That said, perhaps that's the default anyway - except that mine reports 80 degrees on one of the chip temperatures on a normal day.

I just checked mine and discovered on the miner status page that one of the hashboards was down. Hopefully not permanent - i just moved stuff around yesterday and had to unplug / reseat stuff so I'll pop in and see what's up and report back.

*EDIT* a reboot sorted it. Not sure why it was down to start with though.
@oliverwww if you send me your kernel log (system - kernel log tab) we may see something there. Also post a screenshot of your miner status page when it's glitching.

Here's my status page

So far not glitching, will post one when I can.

Can you PM me your email or something? The kernel log is too long for PM

What could be causing the temperature to not be read?
....

Hmm... that's interesting. It could be a faulty controller board or cable issue between the controller and hash board. What you can try doing is disconnect all but one hasboard (disconnect power and the data cables between 2 of the hashboards and the controller board - squeeze the little white connectors to disconnect them). Once you only have a single hashboard connected, boot it up and see if you experience the same issue. If you do, swap to another hashboard and disable the one that you had enabled and see if the issues persist. If they do then you likely have a controller board issue. Send a pic of the top of the miner if you like - I can point out what to disconnect etc. from that.

The fact that it's losing internet as well could be an indicator of a hashboard failure. It's quite possible it took a surge via the Ethernet port.

As for the remote access - you can definitely enable remote access to the machine by adding a port forwarding rule on your office firewall / router. Since you may be using port 80 already for web applications, I'd suggest picking an arbitary port that's unused - like port 8888 - and forward that to the antminer's IP address while converting it to port 80 on the antminer side. If you need help, I can help out, just pm me.

So my R32K deposit attracted a R160- deposit fee, which sucks, but yeah, order (finally) in for my BCH.

Edit: Just transferred my BCH into the address Bitmain provided. How long should I wait for an acknowledgement of sorts? I assume I'll get an e-mail?

Edit #2: So my payment was never processed, because I never got the mail with the confirmation link I needed to click from AltCoinTrader to withdraw my BCH to Bitmain's address. Now my Bitmain order got cancelled, and I needed to request ACT to not process the pending transaction. *sigh*

Edit #3:
So after having cancelled the payment from ACT, now there is a hold on when I can do another withdrawal (I think it'll be fixed now, I think it's 24 hours). In any case, in the last 24 hours, the value of BCH has dropped, which means my S9 now costs more BCH than I bought (and I even bought a little bit extra, mind you to begin with). I'll check if it goes up enough to cover the cost, otherwise I'll just dump another grand or so in and get it done.

Bottom line, my S9 is still not ordered. Think the universe is trying to tell me something??? ;)

OOI... sorry man. But yeah, might be better to hodl or invest lol.

So if anyone DOES put a D3 or S3 on the sidewalk, send me the GPS co-ordinates! :p

I'm getting to that point lol... apparently so are half of Gumtree's users. I think R15k was the lowest price I saw.

I'd take it for R3k5 :crylaugh: :p

Let's see... at today's profitability, you'll have paid it off within 4 months... IF the price and difficulty don't change :crylaugh:
Sad...

Unfortunately for me, it's worth more to keep just for the spare fans in case my L3+ have issues lol.

Exactly. A friend of mine is now in the same boat!

FML... yeah I'll hold BCH until it goes up enough to cover the purchase. I don't care much for BCH in general, and only bought it to pay Bitmain. Will see... maybe if XRP plummets I'll move some funds there ;)

I really don't understand why they don't offer other forms of payment, do they know something we don't?

I think they speculate quite a bit, betting on whatever-coin to go up, and hording as the people buy. That's what I would do.

Agree. It used to be LTC and BTC. BCH is their baby so I guess they have an interest in it becoming more powerful... though I think they underestimated the effort there.

Update: Order in! Fina-flippin-ly!
Managed to get the unit, PSU, and shipping in with ZAR35 to spare :P That puts the order at R32k, which is quite inflated, but at least it's done now.
Still beats the R54K-odd offers I've seen from some of the disties.
Now the dreaded wait starts....

Does your order give an ETA? The last batch says shipping last weeks of Jan 2018, generally how long does it take to get here and past customs?

Just says 21-31 Jan, and PSU only says "January Batch". Hoping it's a tad sooner like with my L3+, but we'll see.

I was thinking it will only leave them between 21 - 31 Jan and reach here a month or 2 later. I havent ordered from them so I dont know how they ship. I went the routine of ordering locally for 40k and my delivery date is before the 15th Jan (ordered on the 23rd Nov). I didnt mind the slight mark up knowing Ill get it sooner than the dispatch date on Bitmain.
