Ouch! Audi trolls German rival BMW on Twitter…

Audi has taken a bit of a pot-shot at German rival BMW on social media, using just three words and a hashtag.

The official Audi account quoted a short ABC News video on Twitter and added the words: “Wait for it. #quattro”.

The ABC News video shows a handful of BMW drivers – hazards flashing – stranded on a flooded road in Burbank, California during a severe storm.

Suddenly, what appears to be a previous generation Audi A6 comes charging through the water, with its driver gleefully hitting the hooter as the Ingolstadt sedan makes it safely to the other side…

Lol thanks for the share :D

After watching some videos on youtube of BMW's X-drive, Mercedes' 4matic and Audi's Quattro - I think Quattro is the better one as an all-rounder.

I am sure this car is an absolute joy to drive but I dont think I will ever be able to justify spending R550k on a car (new or used), even if I could afford it.

Although I do think this is decent/good value for money - excluding the maintenance of course........

Test drove a '16 Audi A4 1.4 TSFI on Friday. First Audi I've ever driven, and WHAT A CAR.
OMG I loved it. Effortless drive, responsive throttle - even for a 1.4 - and a beautiful car (inside and out). And that virtual cockpit is just super cool

Question for those of you who've had babies/toddlers: Would you recommend an SUV, such as a Mazda CX-5 or Q3, over an A4?
Have test driven the CX-5 and really enjoyed it, but obviously not as much as the A4.
The wife and I are expecting our first child in August, and the responsible side of me is saying that I should opt for the SUV with the larger, more practical boot and the higher ride height (ease of putting the kid into the child seat).
Thoughts?

Sorry for the late reply. I agree with just about all of the above. Have a look at the boot space of cars and SUV's you like online. I went through the process when we had our kids, especially when we had the second one. I couldn't find an affordable SUV with more space than the sedan I was looking at. Bought an A5 with the first one, and eynded up getting an A6 with the second one. Have yet to fill it's boot. We go away to friends for a week - pram, camping cot, golf clubs all go in without a hitch.

I've found a hatchback to be more practical than a sedan, purely for the vertical storage option so I would imagine an SUV is much the same.

That being said we've used our pram maybe twice and never bothered again so it would be a shame to buy a whole car you don't necessarily like only to do the exact same thing.

On the flipside when my old man had a stroke and became wheelchair bound his Audi A6 which you could fit a queen size mattress into probably just didn't cut it because of the shallow boot. Massive in volume but not very practical. Ended up trading it in for a Honda Jazz which fits the purpose so much better.

As for getting kids into the seats that's much of a muchness as long as it has four doors instead of two.

I would go Q3 or A4 over the Mazda either way. But considering the above maybe even look at the A3 (hatch) if there is a budget related concern.

This manufacturer makes the best cars…

A common question that often gets brought up is ‘which manufacturer makes the best cars?’. Well, after a very conclusive survey conducted by Consumer Reports, the brand that makes the best vehicles for drivers is one that has shown consistency in its products and for the second year in a row Audi has claimed this title with an overall score of 81 points.

Audi is followed closely by Porsche (78), BMW (77) and then Lexus (77 bust a lower road-test score of 74). The road-test scores were accumulated by Consumer Reports who collected the road tests of all major automotive publications in the US. Brands who only had one model tested by the press were omitted from this list.

These scores were then combined with the brands’ predicted reliability, safety and customer satisfaction to formulate the overall score. Companies such as Porsche, Tesla and Chrysler saw an increase in position due to new models being released over the past year and an improved reliability.

On the flip-side, brands such as Mini, Subaru and Volkswagen saw a decline due to reliability issues and certain models which generated high road test results currently showing their age; particularly the Subaru Legacy and Outback which caused the brand to drop three places.

If you want to see the full report as well as an interactive list, you can find it right over here.

This is good to see - even though these type of reports must be taken with a pinch of salt.

But I think quite a few people in SA still have a negative perception of Audi. I have found this to generally be people in the age group of 40-55+. They are of the opinion that the current Audi cars are the same as 15+ years ago. Obviously this isn't based on a test group of 1000's of people but merely on my personal experiences and interactions with family members, colleagues etc. so I might be totally wrong.

so, a mate of mine went to go test drive the new Audi Q2 last week.

Everything seems to be going well until he realizes that this specific 1.4 model is going for a crisp R620 000

A quick Autotrader search revealed that there are 1.4 models going for up to R650 000. Honestly, who would pay that type of money for a small car that looks like a Polo Cross from behind?
