The Audi Thread

It will anyway be under my excess but I was wondering if the insurance should be warned or made aware of the repair ?

The repair will obviously be done by an Audi approved body repairer.
Being less than a month old didn't the seller give you a dent and scratch protection plan?

I didn't want the one from the seller as they bundle it into the finance, meaning you pay over 10000 for it with the interests.

I changed insurance so there's a one month period before I can claim.

Anyway I travel for almost a month starting next week so I'd rather have it done before (out of insurance). But lesson learned, never park next to a bakkie !

Dent repaired at Dent Doctor in less than 30 minutes !

Nice, how much did it cost?

How exactly do they pull the dent out?

Did you make sure the panel has no residual waves in it?

It was a bit on the expensive side (1200) but I wasn't keen to go to 5 panelbeaters and negotiate, rather get it done quickly.

They pushed it from the inside towards the outside, I can't even see where the dent was anymore.

It's absolutely spotless.

How did they gain access to the inside, strip the interior/door? I thought they had some special magnetic attachment and then they pull it out?

Yes, by the inside of the back panel, the dent was under the rear window, so it's part of the body and not of a removable part (I have the 3 door).

I checked carefully the inside, nothing loose and no mark of screwdriver.

It looks very clean so far, I'll check regularly to make sure.

They anyway have a workmanship warranty.

They are Audi approved and one of the two or three in Gauteng also approved for the R8 aluminium bodies. Their techs are apparently sent to training at Audi Germany to be qualified on aluminium bodies, I guess they follow strict Audi guidelines.

Considering how much time you save compared to a traditional panelbeater what you paid is quite a bargain, I'm assuming they only had the car for a day?

Time to fill a form, waited 3 minutes to get the evaluator, he quoted, I said ok and 20/25 minutes later the car was ready !

No he said:

Oops didn't catch that part!

If it only took 25mins there's virtually no ways they stripped any of the interior out to gain access to the panels from inside the car/behind the panel.

It's not easy stripping any part of a car down to gain rear access to bare metal(so many panels/parts/sound deadening etc) and especially on a late model car you don't rush it because one slip of the screwdriver and a few thousand rand part is faqed, either cracked or scratched enough that the owner won't accept it.

The way I understood it was dent doctor avoided doing that and that was one of its advantages?

It doesn't take that long to take the interior trim off if you're experienced

any A4/A5 3.0tdi owners here?

I am in the process of doing some comparisons BMW E90 330d vs the same era Audo 3.0tdi, and id like to get some info on known issues , owner feedback etc?

From the research I've done it seems like a great engine, and they not too expensive 2nd hand...

I've watched one of these guys take dents out of a panel. He had some specialized tools and some really clever tricks, involving a glue gun, a rod with a collar and a sliding weight, a hammer and plastic punches, a UV light and infinite patience and care. You will not believe what they can fix, without removing interior panels/trim.

What the guy told me is that they massage it from the inside. There was a bit of dust in the back seats and the passenger seat setting was completely different (the seat totally forward) so they definitely went on the back seat.

I didn't see what they did during the 25 minutes so I can't confirm 100%.

Can't comment on ownership but I smashed that 3.0TDI around Killarney and it was fricking awesome.

When I first saw it was a Diesel I was like "aaaargggh this is gonna suck" but then I realised it's 180-odd kw of Diesel with a truck load of torque that all changed very quickly.

Then again also drove the 530d many moons ago and that was also equally exciting to drive so it would be a tough call.

The BMW vs Audi 3.0d seems very close power and torque wize.

Diesel technology has come a far way.

Even if you have stripped that exact model car many times it's often less than easy, not 25min to strip/repair/polish/reassemble. But then again maybe that particular panel/dent was just a lucky one in terms of ease of access.

But considering there was zero repainting done/parts replaced these guys take panelbeater costs to a whole new level, R2500/hr labour ouch!

You might want to consider scratch and dent cover.

I pay R75 a month for R3000 cover, it cost R300 to claim and you can claim unlimited times a years. Had my side mirror scratched twice, and they paid out both times.

My policy is with Iwyze.

do they give you cash ?

cause i know panel beaters charge alot more than R3k
