The Audi Thread

Cool, thanks !

Though I'll phone earlier next time as they seem to give you dates only 2/3 weeks away !

They take time to book you but the service is flawless. Car dropped just before 9, ready at 2 and 5 chips on the windscreen repaired although they charged only for 2 of them.

Literally less than 2 minutes to drop the car and less than 2 to get it back.

Can't be S Tronic. I have a 2014 and it is Multitronic. S-tronic only on the 2 litre Quattro models.

For what it's worth, I think that car is a little overpriced. I paid R295k two years ago for a similar model with 20 000kms. But it didn't have the extras you mentioned.

You are right.
Was confused between the two.
It is Multi S.

This 1.8L engine is very potent for its size, and economical too. The 320nm of Torque is very much what gives it guts. And luckily, there is no oil usage on this 1.8, unlike the old 2 Litre from +-2012.

From the little that I have driven it, I can absolutely agree with this.

Not a fan of CVT's... Good concept, but weird characteristics. If you don't drive it like a granny, it is also not much more economical than a normal auto. This can be put down to constant high revs when you put your foot down and energy lost because of slippage of the belt. Also, if it breaks it is replaced. Not sure about Audi, but with a Jeep Patriot or Nissan XTrail, that will set you back R60-70k at the dealers. This was a couple of years ago. DSG is where it's at.

DSG isn't much cheaper to repair when it goes properly pear shaped?

Less than half that if the mechatronic goes. Less than a third for the clutches. If both go at the same time, fairly close. If out of plan, third party warranty is a must for both though. Would much rather pay for maintenance on a DSG, all things considered. So good!

Any advice as to what to ask about history of car, especially taking into account the gearbox?

If you are going to spend lots of time crawling in traffic then CVT or a plain old slushbox is the best

Yeah, he is not a fanboi of Ford or VAGs and hates their dodgy dual clutch boxes.

Edit : Now that we are on the topic of AutoExpert and Audi - they are aiming for the moon!

I noticed that. I wonder why though, cannot be reliability as I've seen it's rather reliable. But I did learn a few things in that clip. Never thought stop and go traffic would be a problem for DSG. Although I have read it's better to put the car in sport mode when driving in heavy traffic so that it doesn't change up to fast.

The dsg is in a whole different league then for example the corolla quest auto I drove this week. That thing is slow and the gear change while ok at normal speeds, is nasty when you push it.
