Never take your car anywhere else again.

What I do find quite amusing is that they didn't work the cambelt service in there as well as they usually do even though the interval is much higher. Or is this the chain driven model?

To be honest, I was expecting a cambelt replacement service...but guess, can not pile up the **** too high during the first round. Will have someone else have a look and take it from there....but I am still lol 'ing at the estimate.

Called Audi today for a new coolant tank, mine has some small cracks and is slowly loosing coolant (probably just evaporation). Expected to pay at least R800 for the bottle alone, seeing it is $46 online. Got it for less than half that. Also threw in a new cap and 4L of G12 coolant for about R950. I won't need 4L, but keeping some on hand is a good idea.

Everything went better than expected.

What, pray tell, is a mechatron? Sounds like your car is about to spring to life and pull you into it's adventures saving the planet from alien robots.

But it's funny - not once have I ever serviced my car or had the wheels aligned where something magically didn't have to be done.

Weird the second page wasn't there earlier.

Mechatronics is the unit that operates the DSG gearbox.

Seemingly they don't want to fix it (if it's even broken) but just replace the entire thing as they always do.

At least they've downgraded from wanting to replace the entire gearbox.

Go to Carforums.co.za and look up Panic Mechanic. He loves reviving lost cases and knows his way around Audi. Had the wife's S5 there the other day for front and rear brake pads. Labour included it cost me less than R1.5k. Will also take it to him for services from now on.

He's got a 2007 A6 3.0TDI quattro for sale that was a lost case. Got it all sorted and now selling for R95k. You should also check out his rebuild of a V10 S8 or something motor. I could also send you his details. He is just outside of Benoni, but not the Czec guy you mentioned.

What reason did they give for wanting to change the mechatronics unit?

Have you had any shifting issues?

That's their favorite, while it's in for a service customer says I have been having issues with "x", please can you have a look into it...

A little while later, no problem sir we have found the issue, just need to replace the entire sub assembly at RXXk..

No shifting issues. The explanation was, when shifting into reverse the gear does not engage immediately. I have had no issue reversing... I was like, ...it is not like I drive in reverse.

I have no idea how they do inspection, connect the car to some diagnostics machine...?? and note errors...and go...yes, yep...out of maintenance plan, we have another one to fleece.

Anyways, I do not feel, so alone...Audi's Hello Peter page is littered with tons out of maintenance nightmares.

Will have someone else have a look and plot a course from there. One thing is for ****en sure, Audi is not going to be my next car.
 
A silly question that came to my mind.

If you have an accident or a mechanical breakdown and your car is insured with roadside assistance but you also have Audi Assist, motorplan and warranty.

Which one do you call ?

- Calling Audi Assist might prevent you from being refunded of the towing and insurance claim.

- Calling the insurance might void your warranty/motor plan.
 
Isn't Audi assit free if your car is still under motorplan?

What are the common issues with these cars ?
 
Test drove a '16 Audi A4 1.4 TSFI on Friday. First Audi I've ever driven, and WHAT A CAR.
OMG I loved it. Effortless drive, responsive throttle - even for a 1.4 - and a beautiful car (inside and out). And that virtual cockpit is just super cool :cool:

Question for those of you who've had babies/toddlers: Would you recommend an SUV, such as a Mazda CX-5 or Q3, over an A4?
Have test driven the CX-5 and really enjoyed it, but obviously not as much as the A4.
The wife and I are expecting our first child in August, and the responsible side of me is saying that I should opt for the SUV with the larger, more practical boot and the higher ride height (ease of putting the kid into the child seat).
Thoughts?
 
Sedans are fine for children, so is station wagons. My only piece of advice is leather seats.

+1 for leather seats. It's a must with kids.

In the end it depends on your overall needs. SUV's are practical, but much heavier cars and generally more expensive to run. Their boots are also not that much bigger than sedans, but they are more practical with the initial large baby prams, etc.

I have a B8 A4 sedan that I got before our first baby was born and it was fine. Wife then got a Q5 before the second one arrived (unfortunately the Q5 was a lemon) and it helped a bit to load pram + stroller, etc. I was always aware of the size and heaviness of the Q5 compared to my A4. We got rid of the Q5 and wife now has an A4 Allroad, which I absolutely love. It's as practical as the Q5 but running cost and handling is the same as a sedan.

Stationwagons don't have a great image in SA, but once you get past that, you'll appreciate them for what they offer. Unfortunately the only new stationwagon you can get from Audi is the RS4/6 Avants. Also have a look at Volvo V60 CC.

Wouldn't consider a Q3 as it is definitely more compromised than an A4 and also close to end of life. CX-5 is a better option compared to a Q5. Also look at the new VW Tiguan, or if you can wait until late 2017, the Tiguan XXL.

We have a GLC (sorry!) and I reckon the boot is smaller than the A4 which a colleague has. Also higher to load stuff in
