The Audi Thread

How does time based work?

Is there a mileage limitation or what?
Just some clarity on this.

The Freeway plan extension is separate for time and km. My A7 is a 2015 model (30 April 2015 to be exact) and has 85k km's on the clock. I extended the time first which cost me 14k so the freeway plan ends on 30 April 2021 now. This can be extended another 4 times. The km based one works out to 25k for 20k km's and can be extended up to 300k km's. Prices for the other models will obviously be different.

This might seem a bit much at first but I had my brake pads done under the freeway plan yesterday. All four wheels plus labour worked out to just over 10k. It will probably be cheaper doing it at a non-Audi dealership but I will keep my freeway plan topped up just in case something big decides to break.

That’s the thing. It would likely cost 5k elsewhere and the other 5k could have bought a large part of an Extended warranty elsewhere for more time.

However you lose the niceties of fancy tiled floors and courtesy cars etc.

My GTI cost R2500 in parts all round for discs and pads. Did it myself but you would be hard pushed to charge more than R2500 for the work which most don’t.

For the 105,000km that I had the car and over 5 years it about levelled our in costs for what you just paid for a top up only.

Peace of mind has its own value though alongside the lack of hassles.

Parts were R5112 and labour was R5536.

They did have awesome cappuccino though.

Madness.

Literally double up on what it should realistically be.

But then that fancy floor space doesn’t pay for itself, or so I tell myself. Then I take my bike to BMW that is the fanciest workshop and dealership I’ve ever used and it’s the cheapest bike I’ve ever owned by a very long shot so I can’t even believe that statement.

I mean that’s literally R1384 per wheel which is ridiculous.

Motor plans much like medical aid have ****ed up the costing for the industry. Maybe that’s why the bikes are different as motorplans don’t dictate the price.

Going to be interesting to see what happens with this service anywhere legislation.

PDC controller, alternator and battery died on the Q5. Audi wanted R32k to fix it. AA warranty was only willing to cover R5k. I went to an independent mechanic who sent the alti in to be repaired instead of replaced and we ended up paying R2500 + R850 for towing from Audi to the workshop.

Will buy a new battery and PDC controller once I recover from the wedding expenditures. The car actually starts easier on the "dead" battery now than the last week before the alti went.

These aftermarket warranties are the biggest bunch of horse ****. Money wasted.

I also had the car serviced while we asked for a diagnostic test for the alternator issues- R3500 for a glorified oil change, Audi wanted another R2k (not including labour) for the rear pads. Got an independent quote for R1k - half the price. Speaking of labour, they charge R1195 per hour, and they recon removing and replacing a battery takes 0.9 hourly units @ said R1195 per hour...

No wonder they are called Stealerships.

Anyone here had the rear/subwoofer speaker out on an earlier model?

I have a 2009 A4 B8 sedan, the speaker in the back shelf is making bad noises so I need to get it out. The online guides I've found tend to show different models to ours, so I'm not sure if I can get the speaker out by removing the grille or if I need to remove the entire parcel shelf.

The model I have does not have split/fold down rear seat or hatch for boot access, the only thing it has is the fold down arm rest.

Grateful for any tips....

Audi releases colouring-in book to help fight boredom during lockdown

Audi is helping all fans of the brand, regardless of age, to offset pending boredom during the lockdown period.

The German car brand commissioned its very talented industrial and graphic designers to create a series of colouring-in sketched, featuring some of the most iconic Audis. This Audi Collections colouring-in book is now available for free download.

Adult colouring-in has proven to be a popular stress mitigation and mindfulness exercise of late, recommended by some occupational therapists.

With Audi's colouring-in book, you'll get the opportunity to finally bring to life that purple and orange R8 you've always dreamed of.

The range of cars covers classic to contemporary Audi models, in a variety of settings. One of the sketches offers an Audi Q-series on the moon. Another sees the R8 supercar, parked in a cityscape.

Visit an Audi Factory Virtually

Bored at home? Have a decent Internet connection? Ever wanted to visit Audi's Ingolstadt factory? Now you can, albeit virtually!

With the world almost locked down and house-bound, there's been a clamouring for entertainment. Audi has announced that its customers and fans of the brand can explore its Ingolstadt plant as part of an online guided tour. As the facilities are currently closed to the public and they're a few thousand kilometres away, this is the closest you can get to the real thing.

Talking MP3 player... My birthday is on Sunday so the wife is contributing towards me getting the Audi Music Interface with bluetooth fitted to my car. Integrates with the existing media interface with the car and gives A2DP, iPod and USB integration. Plus bluetooth for my phone with contacts etc... on the multimedia interface (parrot getting taken out now).
I am like a kid. Cannot wait for next week :D

I was going to buy the kit and attempt the installation myself, but there is stuff to do with the fibre optics in the existing system which scared me off. Getting an Audi approved installer in Boksburg to do it rather.

Current audio system is Boze with all fibre. AMI will complete her
Which dealer is doing it for you and how much.

I am looking into buying an earlier model A3 1.8t or 2.0t. What would your recommendations be? What to watch out for etc?

Budget, age? These can make a significant difference, any answer without consideration of those parameters is practically meaningless...
