The overhual is definately needed. We need to start now with proper schools leagues, force all PSL and NFD clubs to run proper acedemies, actually use the FIFA breaks for U17, U20, U23 matches instead of only assembling them for qualifiers. We need Bafana playing on every match day, not just qualifiers. We need the School of Excellence back. We need provincial and regional scouts, this country is HUGE! Our PSL clubs need to take the CAF CL seriously. Coach the coaches, the licences are a good start, but it needs to be expanded. Facilities, have you seen the way some township 'pitches' look.

We need to do that and probably more. It's that, or do what some other African countries are doing and 'import' European trained players.

The CAF coaching licences work on a pretty similair system to the UEFA ones, but it means coaches don't need to travel to Europe.

As for how hard the overhaul would be, what's the alternative?

This has got fck all to do with the coach. We could have Mourinho, Capello and Hiddink put together as coaches and we would still be ****. The entire footballing ecosystem in this country is rotten and only a proper overhaul will result in proper results. Brave decisions need to be taken now and evem then it wiuld tae around 20 odd years for the resulta to show. Dont delude yourselves people... there is no shortcut.

Bafana moved up 2 places in the FIFA rankings:

The South African national team has gained two places on FIFA’s official ranking system, with the latest statistics having been released today, October 19.

Bafana Bafana has moved up the ranking from 51st position to 49th, leapfrogging Jamaica and Burkina Faso in the process. Pitso Mosimane’s goalless draw against Sierra Leone in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier has seen the country move into the top 50.

From a continental perspective, the Confederation of African Football (CAF), South Africa has moved up one place, from ninth to eight position, ahead of Burkina Faso.


The Ivory Coast is still the highest ranked African nation with Egypt, Ghana, Algeria, Senegal, Nigeria and Cameroon making up the top seven on the African continent, respectively.


The top four footballing nations on FIFA’s official ranking system remain unchanged, with Spain in first, the Netherlands in second, Germany in third and Uruguay in fourth. Brazil have moved into fifth position followed by Italy, England, Greece, Portugal and Argentina, who share the 10th position with Denmark.

We went up 21 points since last month, from 574 to 595.

Edit: FIFA has a match against India listed for 7 January in Joburg. Anyone know anything about this?

No idea. Didn't even know that India was a FIFA member...
I have only had a rumour about a 4 nations tournament involving the big non-qualifying flops (Nigeria, Cameroon, Egypt, SA)

Kickoff and Soccer Laduma are both reporting that Bafana will play Zimbabwe in Harare on 15 November. The Zim FA asked for the match, and it looks like SAFA have now agreed to it. While the match isn't worth much, I'm glad that Bafana will at least play 2 matches this international break.

Finaly Pitso say sorry for AFCON.

The team's management believed that a draw in their final group game against Sierra Leone would be enough to see Bafana Bafana qualify for the AFCON final in January. Instead the draw was not enough, a mistake that the South African public did not take lightly.

While this may attract the trolls, I sometimes wonder if we are infact good enough. Teams like Ghana and the Ivory Coast call teams made up mostly of European based players. Bafana is made up mostly of PSL based players. Plus, our players in Europe are often in smaller leagues or bench warmers.

Still we should be able to qualify for AFCON without a hassle. Our neighbours like Botswana, Zambia, and even Mozambique can do it.

None of those teams are regular AFCON qualifiers though. As bad as it is, I sometimes wonder if the Ghana/Senegal/Algeria approach of using dual nationals born and trained in Europe is the way that African football will head.

In other news, Bafana have a new kit:

Puma launched the new Bafana Bafana kit in London today.

According to therightwinger.co.za, the new kit was revealed at the opening of Interpretations of Africa: Football, Art and Design, at the Design Museum in London.

The launch was attended by Bafana captain Steven Pienaar, Samuel Eto'o of Cameroon, John Mensah of Ghana and Yaya Touré of Ivory Coast.

The national kits of Ghana, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Algeria, Namibia, Senegal, Togo, Gabon and Burkina Faso are being exhibited alongside South Africa's, which was designed by South African brothers Hasan and Husain Essop.

Bafana Bafana will wear the kit when they play against the Ivory Coast in the Nelson Mandela Challenge on Saturday, 12 November, including a rainbow graphic inspired by the 'Rainbow Nation'.

Safa President Kirsten Nematandani says: "When Archbishop Desmond Tutu coined the phrase the Rainbow Nation he captured the unique character of our country, and how our different peoples would work together to make our country great.

"It is appropriate that the new rainbow kit design has been launched in the year of the Archbishop's 80th birthday. We believe we have a kit and a team which can unite our fans behind the Bafana Bafana cause."

National team coach Pitso Mosimane says: "The new team kit is technically advanced, looks great and tells the unique and wonderful story of our country. The players will wear it with pride."
