It ended 1-1, a good result, especially with all of the withdrawals. We should beat NZ on Friday.

New Zealand might actually whip us. I'm sure the Ozzies would have underestimated us. We do seem to raise our games sometimes against quality opposition and play *** against minnows
 
Not sure they the decided to play on Monday, considering different time zones.

What? Australia (59) are six spots ahead of us (65), hardly big fish... New Zealand are at 111th. I know Bafana are bad, but come now...

It ended 0-0. This was probably GI's last match, so here are some things to consider.

During his 2 year tenure:
The good
He coached 31 games, won 14, drew 9 and lost 8
He only lost 2 competitive matches
He won a friendly against Spain

The bad
He caused Steven Pienaar to quit.
He clashed with players at CHAN, likely leading to the current boycott

The ugly
SAFA had no technical director
The U23 team, which should be the feeder, has not kicked a ball
The U20 and U17 teams have not played regularly

In 1996, when Bafana Bafana won the African Cup of Nations, the country was ranked 16th in the world. We had a fantastic blend of players. There was the strength of the white players and the flair of the black players.

Morton is the only good player. I've watched him for years and he is underrated. Doutie couldn't make it at Pirates.
Dolly can come good with time.
Rugby or cricket are miniscule compared to soccer.

What do you guys think? Shakes will probably be a lot cheaper than Queiroz, and Keshi was apparently making more in Nigeria than SA offered him.

Shakes doesn't have a great record with the junior teams over the last few years, though that has more to do with player availability. Junior qualifiers are not on FIFA dates, so clubs do not need to release players. He did take silver at the 2011 All Africa games though.

I'm more interested in SAFA's overall plan, and thus the technical director. Will they finally have the U23, U20 and U17 teams playing on every FIFA date, I can only hope so. Last year the failed to get friendlies for Bafana on FIFA dates, a complete stuff up.

Shakes' first task will be getting Bafana to AFCON 2015.
 
A huge step back I really thought they'd go for some proper planning and rebuilding. Shakes suffers from careerism and has honestly done nothing with his only notable achievement being Sydney 2000 and that was largely being at the right place and the right in terms of talent available
 
It's an international week, and Bafana have to Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

It would have been a draw if it was still GI. The game was poor though.
