The Bafana Bafana Thread

Another chance lost, Evidence actually prevented the ball from going into the net.
Don’t think Ghana would have allowed Ofofri back in the team hotel had Evidence scored. At least he’s based in Johannesburg, so he’d be fine.

If those European based teams can continue to do us a favour and not allow their players to play in “high risk areas”, we may have a chance.

Credit where credit due as they did play better than most of us expected. Ghana are a stronger team on paper and it was a quiet afternoon for Ronwen Williams in goal.

Good displays from Hlongwane and Teboho Mokoena while Xulu was resolute in defence.

Hell yes!

Ghana didn't have all of their best players but we will take the damn win!

Still a long way to go. We tend to buckle away from home and the conditions will be difficult in Ethiopia and Ghana but this performance was refreshing. It was scrappy but international games are mostly that way.

Those who collect points earlier mostly benefit from the chaos and panic that ensues in the after games, I think this win will go a very long.

Terrible officiating but this is not the first time nor the last time a howler like this will be given. VAR needs to be introduced to African football ASAP.
Since these are all Fifa WC qualifiers whether they are in Africa or Europe shouldn't it be standard to have VAR? Or are Fifa WC qualifiers in Africa fall under CAF and so on for other federations?

Officiating is terrible in Africa. Outside of like top 5 countries on the continent, officials are so terrible. It really devalues the game. Good officiating is really far away. CAF needs to do more here.

Unfortunately, VAR is even further away. We can't even get the basic camera stuff right. I regularly watch Asian and South / Central American games and the quality of broadcasts are miles ahead even if the quality of football is rather poor in Asia. The problem is that African football will never be a good product if the quality of broadcasts is so poor. Footage is shaky, the replays are really poor quality, there are only one or two cameras which cover the action. Its a real shame because the football can be exciting and way better quality than Asia.

This is not even the first time this kind of stuff has happened.

The confederations are in charge of qualifiers. So its all on CAF.
