Six players made their debut against Namibia. Two more against Zambia. So, ja. Not really Bafana.
 
Bafana beat Lesotho 2-1 to finish 3rd at the COSAFA Cup. It was a weak squad, with terrible preparation. I'm not sure what else can really be taken from this tournament. The next matches are in August, with friendlies against Nigeria and Burkina Faso.
 
Bafana's last stand will be at Moses Mabhida Stadium:

BAFANA Bafana will host their World Cup qualifier against Botswana in Durban on September 7, Fifa has confirmed.

The match at the Moses Mabhida Stadium will kick off at 3.30pm.

But the venue for the key match in Group A between leaders Ethiopia and the Central African Republic [CAR] has yet to be designated, suggesting it is likely to be played at a neutral venue rather than in Bangui. That will come as much relief to Ethiopia but a blow to South African hopes.

The Sowetan

FIFA's website has the CAR vs Ethiopia match listed for Brazzaville, in the Congo. Bafana need to win, and that Ethiopia slip up.

Midfielders:
Siphiwe Tshabalala, Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Dean Furman, Hlompho Kekana, Oupa Manyisa, Andile Jali, Thandani Ntshumayelo, Bongani Zungu, Thuso Phala, Daine Klate, Lerato Chabangu.

Strikers:
Tokelo Rantie, Bernard Parker, Lebogang Manyama, Luyolo Nomandela

All 28 players will be available for the match against Nigeria. The match against Burkina Faso is not on a FIFA date, thus Ngconga, Furman and Rantie will go back to their clubs. Orlando Pirates have a CAF Champions League match on the same day, and will withdraw all of their players, leaving a squad of 19 for the match.
 
Pirates asked for their players to be released, and GI agreed, I think that this is a terrible decision, Pirates could be forced to abide by FIFA rules.

Andile Jali, Daine Klate, Senzo Meywia, Thabo Matlaba, Oupa Manyisa and Thandani Ntshumayelo were selected for the Nelson Mandela Challenge against Nigeria on August 14.

However, the match – although on a FIFA date – is just three days before the Buccaneers’ crucial CAF Champions League group stage match against Zamalek.

Igesund says Pirates need to do well in the competition and that if he was the club coach, he would have done the same thing.

"It's a very important issue. The squad was announced last week and we received a letter from Pirates.

"I've replaced them with David Mathebula and Bennett Chenene, both from SuperSport United."

An injuries:
News reaching the Siya crew is that SuperSport United duo Bennett Chenene and Innocent Mdledle will miss out on national duty after suffering hamstring injuries.

Both players were missing from the squad as SuperSport United took on Orlando Pirates in the MTN8, with Matsatsantsa eventually bowing out via a 4-3 penalty shootout loss.

On the Pirates thing – I'm with releasing the players. CAF Champs League is huge. Much more important than a pointless friendly (and why the second friendly against Burkina Faso FFS?)

I post the first source I get, and SAFA's site is down for me at the moment. The 2nd friendly is part of the Mandela Sport and Culture Day, the double header with the Springboks. Pirates players were not going to be used for that match, and internationally based players are going to be released.

I know that the CAF CL is important, but Wednesday is a FIFA date. Brazil called players away from the German Cup due to the window last season, it really doesn't matter what a club wants, FIFA dates mean you have to release the player. SAFA could have forced the players releases with FIFA.

I know 14th is a Fifa date, but CL is still more important IMO. It's not our fault Fifa can't get with it with African football. Would they make a Fifa date during the Uefa Champs League? Doubt it ...

I also know second friendly is part of the Nelson Mandela Sports Day, and I'm not sold on that concept at all. To me it smells of suits making money.

Still, I hope Bafana thrash both the Super Eagles and Burkinabe. GO BOYS.

The August friendly dateis hated by club coaches all over Europe, it's either just before or right at the start of the season. The FIFA calender does favour UEFA, but I still think that SAFA should have stuck to their guns.

As for the double header, I thought that it was good in theory, but the marketing seems to have been a no go. There's not neraly enough hype about it. Hopefully they get good crowds for both matches.
 
Some good news, tonight's match is on SS4 and HD4, and miraculously, on SABC1. SABC has moved Generations to accommodate the match. Maybe SS having the rights too, gave them the needed kick in the pants.
