The Bafana Bafana Thread

Well algeria scored which would have helped us if we scored another, but oh well

Algeria did us a favour and we screwed it up, our goal differences would have been the same if we stayed 1 - 0, and goals scored 3 each.

The way we lost those three matches has tarnished the good rep that Shakes had built for himself before the AFCON. However, there's no shame in losing to any of the teams we played against in our group; as long as we learn a thing or 2 from those losses of course.

Very disappointing. Tournament came too soon for this group. If they can keep them together the next tournament will be better. He needs to decide on a keeper ffs. Not good for a tournament. They scored against all those big guns. We punched above our weight but ultimately it wasn't enough. BMT is a necessity and we don't have enough of it.

I can't remember when was the last time I enjoyed bafana's football. I did this tournament. Definitely an improvement.

They did punch above their weight. It was a first AFCON for many of them. Also, the past failures of our youth teams, meana that it was a first tourement for some of them.

Shakes needs to check his attitude, but I see him staying. CHAN 2016 is next, which means fighting with clubs for players.

Our u20 and u17 teams have their championships in February and March. The u20 side won a tournement in Russia, so look in good form.

Shakes needs to stop trying to be a witty guy at press conferences and start prepping his sides properly. Three leads tossed away. Not good enough.

This tournament was hopefully the ego check he needed.

Not sure what the issue was. Three games, three leads, two losses and a draw. Maybe it's a bit of complacency when in the lead. Maybe it's mental. Or maybe it's a lack of belief in their own abilities to win big matches.

Whatever the reason, it was still good to see them compete and compete well. Hopefully this group can take us forward to once again become THE African powerhouse of football.

We are all asking ourselves this simple question: what really happened there?

Fatigue. European based players have the edge when it comes to fitness. By the middle of the 2nd half, we couldn't string 2 decent passes together

Yip, someone posted about complacency. Too many of our players have never been outaide of SA. The PSL is very comfortable. SA training is not at the level of EU clubs.

Hopefully development is moving forward, I see more fancy schools taking up the sport. We need players to strive to play im Europe though. It will hone their skills. We have too many players who are happy in the PSL, and don't try for more.
