The Banting/LCHF Thread

Your goal should be healthy. Losing weight could be part of that. My advice is to check out reddit.com/r/keto . Tons of info and you'll find daily eating plans, tons of recipes and advice.

Thanks Randhir, checking it out now :D

Be prepared for a lot of info if you take the time. Some here disagree, but my top tip is weighing yourself, finding a keto calculator, eating to your recommended protein levels/day, eating your fibre, eating fat to satiate yourself. Use MyFitnessPal to track your macros.

And don't cheat. At least not for a long, long while if you can help it.

@Randhir was that acceptable enough for an explanation ?

That was brilliant. I actually agree with most of it. And you're right, he should be looking at less than 50g carbs/day. I shoot for around 23g, and usually have much less.

This right here is the reason I was so fcking furious in those threads. I was never against the LCHF I am against the uneducated sheep that follows it incorrectly.

@olmeanguy
@radnhir
@deadmanza

etc

Are we fighting again, you think I'm an uneducated sheep based on what?

You're the one that keeps taking a dip at Noakes and here suddenly you agree with the context out of his book.

Maybe you need to wind your neck in and read what people actually post.

You say repeatedly that LCHF/Banting is wrong yet here you are starting to troll a specific LCHF/Banting thread

I'm fully committed though, not going to cheat at all. I've had excess weight for a while and I am quite frankly, 'dik' of it lol. I weigh about 84-85 kg but I'm short so not a good weight for me.

I'll go through everything I can before tomorrow. I will probably start on Sunday then.

Great. Rather educate yourself fully before jumping in without learning all you can.

Mr meany please go read my thing again.

I wasn't referring to you as a sheep

I wasn't even against LCHF I think you just misread my post maybe.

I hate that, my feels are way off and then I usually end up with a mini base and triple toppings.

Okey this is my attempt to educate politely.

Hi @phaktza

Honestly I do not know where to begin.

Lets take it from the top.

Common misconception is that people think 1g of protein = 1g of meat ( any meat ).

Yes, and I have emphasised high fat meat. Your palm is approximate 300g of total weight, or 60-80g of protein. This varies depending on the meat.

Okey reality is as follows 1 chicken breast of say 100g is not 100g of protein, it is about 33g of protein. ( About, not going into full science mode here)

So bottom line 80g of protein is not the size of your palm, 80g of that particular meat might be yes. 1g Meat =! 1g Protein.

Either your GP should loose his license or you understood him wrong. In bodybuilding we usually give or take work on the 1.2g of protein per pound of bodyweight. I personally actually am working on 2.1g protein per kg of bodyweight which roughly equates to 340g of protein per day. ( In terms of meat that is about 7kg of lean mince ) to give you an idea.

I think your calculations are off unless you're weighing it at around 170kg? I'm also at a bit of loss, since the recommendation was 2.0g per kilogram - which is what your advocating? LCHF advocates less than 240g per day to prevent glucose spikes (you can, of course, amend that if you're training).

I agree with this, my carbs are at 100g per day atm, but I suspect you also misunderstood this as 1g of rice = 1g of carb which is also not the case.

50g of carbs is about 200g of long grain white rice.

But I don't think 50g of carbs is acceptable on a LCHF diet, please correct me if I am wrong as I am not to clued up about what diet suggestions you LCHF oakes follow.

Ja, I'm not advocating eating rice. No grains.

I know exactly what carbs are and am not measuring out 50g of sweet potato (a better substitute for maintaining sugar levels) a day, as being 50g of carbs! If you want to enter a keto state you need to eat 20g or less carbs per day, for weight loss (not-keto) it's less than 50g. For weight maintenance you'd have to see.

So yes, 20-50g of net carbs (carbs minus the fiber) per day, no matter the source.

You can't say Fats remain unlimited, 1g of fat = 9 calories

Weight loss is all about Calories in and Calories out.

Untrue and very dangerous.

You're clearly in the very wrong thread if you don't understand the need to fat, especially with regards to energy and preventing glucose spikes. Too little fat and you'll notice a lack of energy and a craving for sugar - your glucose levels will be out of whack.

Fat: 1 gram = 9 calories
Protein: 1 gram = 4 calories
Carbohydrates: 1 gram = 4 calories
Alcohol: 1 gram = 7 calories

Very mixed uhm yes try to avoid supplements, but for the rest I think actual LCHF dieters here will better answer this part about what it is about.

If you really want to learn more about macro nutrients ask me then I will post a link explaining it in more detail.

Finally, and once again you don't seem to understand LCHF, it's not about calorie counting - which is exactly what you're trying to push on people. It's about maintaining your glucose levels to prevent storing of fat and sugar spike.

Not all calories are equal! You're just punting what every dietician and doctor has been taught for the last 50 years, a result of which is an increase in obesity and diabetes.

I agree, he's assuming that only he knows and understands nutrition. Thanks, but I am well aware that 100g of rice does not equal 100g of carbs.

He's pushing an agenda that's been repeated for 50 years, even though it appears to be a failing nutritional lifestyle, and openly admits he doesn't understand LCHF.

Take it with a pinch of salt.

STOP GUYS!!! STOP!!!
