The Banting/LCHF Thread

Been on this Banting thing for a few weeks. Weight on the scale hasn't changed much but clothes feel soooo different.

Read quite a bit and appreciate the contributions so far.

What do you folks drink? Water is NB but do you drink anything else?

I got some coconut water from woolies. But just sip on that now and again. I drink lots of full cream milk.

Any other options?

I think that for weight loss you should try to avoid too much dairy as well. I normally drink lots of tea with a splash of full cream... but then again I've just started and haven't seen much results yet.

Coffee, tea

coconut water is just another fad imho

Water, coffee and tea, with lots of cream. The thicker and heavier, the better. Also, sometimes if I'm making thai curry I'll end up drinking half the coconut milk before it gets a chance to get added in to the curry. Not drinking, but I also eat lots of double cream yoghurt.

Personally I wouldn't buy coconut water though, purely from a price point of view. I've also tried the almond milk that woolies sells once when it was on special, it's really heavily diluted and tasted more like sugar than almond to me...

Thanks. So we have water, coffee and tea....this is hard.

No pain, lots of gain I guess

Water and cream.

Coffee and cream is nice actually though does taste a bit rich. I also drink the zero sugar/carb soft drinks which works for us ( co-ee Iron brew lite , zoke zero etc ).

So you have been consuming Coke Zero and losing weight?

It did not affect your weightloss?

Nope but more the Cooee Iron Brew lite/zero which is far cheaper than coke and tastes better.

I do also drink a lot of water a day though, between 2-3 litres. Juice is a treat more with dinner or weekends.

Well after trying this, I haven't gone full banting vibe, just cut out all sugar, bread, pasta, rice, potatoes. So far I'm down 6kg in 1 1/2 months. this was with absolutely no exercise, getting back in to running now, another 10kg to go :D

So what types of foods were you having that is not allowed on banting?
What is your daily diet like?

Just be aware that research says even drinks that are artificially sweetened cause an insulin response. In other words, they can still make you gain weight.

I'm not exactly sure on the ones that are not allowed, like i said i didn't go full on.

Daily would be: breakfast - 1 or 2 eggs quickly fried or poached, depending how much time i have else nothing.
Lunch : Usually previous Nights dinner
Dinner : Normal stuff minus the carbs. Steak + Salad or Stir Fry with chicken or Mince and cauli rice. Stuffed chicken breasts with veggies etc. Nothing out of the ordinary, just replace Starch with veg.

You can still lose weight even at 150g of carbs so I would not worry about the small bits. I have lost weight eating carbs (though, no sugar)

I think my carb count hovers at around 50-60g on an avg day. Some less but never more.

I have stopped banting, was feeling ill, went to the doc he tested my cholesterol, it was scary high. don't think banting is for me. Although I lost 16kg and lots of cm.

Your body takes 3-4 weeks to adapt to a LCHF way of eating, and you will feel bad.
And regarding cholesterol, do some more homework.
High carbs causes insulin secretion causes inflammation causes heart disease.

I had a shot of honey infused J&B last night.. was so tasty.

What's the thoughts on these honey infused whiskeys.. safe? I checked the bottle and there was no mention of added sugar.
