The Banting/LCHF Thread

Low carb works for me when I completely dispense with the desire for bread.

Cauli/almond/coconut/selenium husk/etc. flour are all vey poor substitutes for bread. Your diet no longer contains bread. Stop pretending.

The magic bread made with sugar free peanut butter and egg in the micro is amazing!!

Yeah I agree. I get low carb desserts once in a blue moon but that's about it.

@FlashSA Thanks :)

What do you guys think of this?

Personal experience, no issues with Almond flour but it is too pricey to use in large quantities. My wife primarily bakes with coconut flour for me and that you have to watch as it absorbs water like a sponge. If she uses almond flour, it generally tends to be in large qty recipes ie: multiple cupcakes or a large chocalate brownie cake :p. This chap seems to argue with himself as he even mentions a correction but fights against it.

Also a lot of recipes call for a mix of flour: ie coconut AND almond.

He's basically saying, " don't chase your bread cravings with items that will never taste like bread". I agree with him but I like certain staples, like the wife yesterday had crumpets and appricot jame with cream or Scones. Now we made our own jam with berries and xylitol and "coco" scones with nice melted real butter. I crave that more than any bread.

No I agree, I get what he is saying. But when I make soup, there is absolutely no replacement for bread, and it is the season. :D
So banting bread will suffice.

I had some banting rolls from Checkers over the weekend. It was ok.

Yes basically this.

I have found that the poor approximations of bread in banting pizza and the like simply lead to a greater longing for the real thing.

So if I need something crunchy on my plate then I'm using pork rinds to crumb some chicken or a schnitzel. A layer of shaved parmesan under the grill will crisp up beautifully on top of a frittata or moussaka.

Find real alternatives, not poor analogues.

Those Banting Revolution Pizza bases work a charm for Quesadillas.

What is that red sauce/dip?

Take one egg, 1 tablespoon of sugarfree peanut butter, about a quarter teaspoon baking powder, some salt if you want, whisk, put in a small bowl, PUT IN MICROWAVE take out after 90 seconds, be amazed.

Sounds very similar to "cloud bread" which is bread-like in name only and also very delicious. I'm trying your version here tonight.

on the bread issue. i agree, stop finding alternatives... you are just feeding your craving that won't be satisfied, because there simply is not proper substitute... find the ones that are close enough, like pizza bases etc, but leave the bread where it should be... in someone else's plate.

So lots of good dishes and ideas in this thread but nothing to conclude or summarize the thread.

Do you guys follow a time table type where you have it written down in terms of your daily dish of breakfast, lunch and supper?

Wanted to share my new post dinner go to for those evenings when a sweet tooth rears its head.

New low carb muesli from Woolworths. Goes down well dry or with a splash of full cream milk / full fat yoghurt.

I bought the other flavour of this, can't remember the name, and some double yoghurt with those fruit pieces in.
Will be having this for breakfast over the next couple of days.

This granola is vrek expensive though. And I F'kn hate woolworths for telling you that the price is on the item but it is nowhere to be found.
