The Banting/LCHF Thread

Nice, couple of people have recommended this but I haven't seen it anywhere :(

Woolworths definitely sells them. Spar and I think Checkers recently started as well.

I personally just buy from their website and I always opt for the 1kg bag. So much better value for money than the tins.

Also forgot to add, I broke 76kg, now weighing in at 75.9kg! woot, almost 20kg lost. Now at 19.1kg, that does include muscle gain, so I suppose I may have passed 20kg in absolute fat lost

Very very nice.

I haven't weighed in a very long time. Mostly because I rather go with the mirror, clothes and how I feel to gauge my progress. With almost 4 years of serious lifting behind me I also realised that weight is not the best way to track progress.

This does make sense, I also sense it in the mirror a lot more than scale.

These are delicious by the way,

Quick look seems it is very similar to the Banting Revolution Porridge.

It's not bad but damn that coconut flour sucks up liquids at an alarming rate. And the flaxseed does unfortunately give that slimy texture that many people can't stand. I'm fine with it.

On the subject of sweeteners. I have been using sucralose (same as Apoc) but I'm seeing more "research" that is suggesting it really doesn't have a great effects for the body.

Now I'm not a Xylitol fan and Erythritol is ok but not particularly sweet so how do you guys rate stevia? I tried the canderel version once and it was absolutely disgusting. Are the any other better alternatives?

I've tried all of them and I keep going back to Sucralose. When taking taste, after taste, mouth feel, texture and cost into consideration of all the options, sucralose remains the best solution for me. I also know I am using it in minimal quantities nowadays so if there are in fact some negative effects I would like to believe they are negligible.

Eish I don't know. Yes cost and taste wise it's miles ahead but I am concerned about the potential side effects(which there seems to be a multitude of).

Mind sharing some of the latest research? I must admit I haven't been following current studies for the good part of a year now.

What are you guys using these sweeteners for?

At this stage just for my 3 or 4 cups of coffee a day.

Back when I first started making my own liquid sweetener I used them in all sort of LC desserts and even the odd sweet pumpkin / sweet carrot dish.

I didn't know you can buy sucralose as a sweetner, that is cool. Liquid stevia is cool so far.
