The Banting/LCHF Thread

I'm feeling tired and without energy sometimes. What can I do to get a bit of an energy kick?
Wait. You will come right. Once you're eating properly consistently you won't have any energy issues.
If you're having dips it means something is messing with your blood sugar. You probably ate something carby a few hours before.

Monitor how long after eating or when in the day this happens, this might give a better indication of the cause, you could always try MCT oil.

Also your body is probably in a transition phase as it adapts so you might go through a phase of feeling really crap until you've fully adjusted

Cool. I'll check it out. Thinking it might be yoghurt, but I'll monitor and double check. Thanks.

Thanks, here's hoping. Getting some headaches now and again. Nothing bad, but as I understand that's normal. Pushing through it.

Yes pure tap water is bad. The chloramines will interfere with ketosis, that's why I filter my water.

Just kidding :D

I haven't read this whole thread, but here are my 2c worth.

Ive lost 34kg doing the keto diet for the last year and a bit. Lost all the weight in the first 8 months and have been stable on 96 for the rest of the time. I still need to lose the last 6 kg, but I'm happy with were I am overall and I'm feeling good.

My go to Recipe's:

Meatza
There are plenty of variations and no real set recipe so I'll just put the basic outline with how I like to do it:
1/2 kilo of mince
100g of minced salami or bacon, or an egg (the pork helps the beef bind, if you dont use that then use the egg.)

Pizza toppings (more bacon, more salami, mushrooms, cheese) Fresh avo is AWESOME ON THIS!
Pizza spices (most importantly origanum, but leafy herbs also go nicely)

Mix the beef and pork or egg thourougly. make sure the beef mince is COLD when you start and try and mix everything before it warms too much or you gonna have a messy time.
spread it in an oven pan about 5mm thick (not thicker tho, cos you lose the "meatza" and end up with more of a flat meatloaf. If youre gonne do that rather see the next recipe).
Bake it in the oven untill its mostly cooked. It will shrink about 25%. Its normal.

Take it out and put all your toppings and spices on as you would pizza and bake in the oven until the cheese has melted.

Breakfast meatloaf (again just a rough guide as to how I like to do it. There is no real method)

you'll need 1kg mince, green pepper, cheese, bacon, an egg, muchrooms, and whatever other interesting fillers you want.

again as with the meatza you mix the egg into the mince (make sure the mince is COLD) with some spices. Cook the bacon and mushrooms and if youre using peppers give them a bit of a fry in the bacon fat. cut the bacon into thin strips.

Spread some cling wrap on the counter and spread the meat in a 1cm layer on the plastic. leaving a 3cm space all round spread the ingredients onto the mince. Try and put the cheese in between the other ingredients so that it helps hold everything together.

Roll the mince up using the plastic until its a complete roll. make sure to seal the ingredients inside the mince otherwise you're going to lose the cheese.

Roll the whole shebang onto a baking tray and try and get the seam under the roll. Bake at 180 for about 40 min.
Take it out and leave it to cool.

Eat some right there cos its GOOD, but slice the rest into slices when its completely cold. Freeze individually (or in packs of two depending on the size).

Then for breakfast, stick a couple of slices in the micro and fry a couple of eggs. Stick the eggs ontop and youve got a great breakfast.
I've also used this for lunch, but lately I skip lunch.

1 minute microwave muffin I eat this when I feel I need roughage

Basic Recipe:
1/4 cup of almond flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 egg

Microwave for a minute.

I usually substitute some of the almond flour for bran for the roughage and that works for me.
I have also added cheese on occasion.
For a sweet variant you can add some cream cheese (not too much), sweetner and sugar free chocolate chips.

Be careful of those last ingredients tho, even sugar free they can be high in carbs.

I'll add more later.
