The Banting/LCHF Thread

PROPER home made LCHF Pizza!

A while ago I mentioned the macadamia nut flour+ cheese pizza bases I buy from a place just outside of town. They are made in Plett, vacuum packed and shipped frozen all along the coast. I thought I would share a blow by blow of the pizza I made tonight.

Here is the base from my freezer: FROZEN BASE.jpg
Here it is defrosted and ready to crisp up in the oven: UNPACKED.JPG
180 degrees for about 10 minutes to crisp up the base: FIRST BURN.jpg
Here are tonights toppings (last night's leftover burger patties diced, leftover bacon, leftover fried onion and of course cheese): TOPPINGS.jpg
Toppings added: TOPPINGS ADDED.jpg
Finished product: DONE.jpg

Base is R55 and I almost always make a pizza when our fridge has leftovers so toppings are cost effective. I only ever manage to finish a half of these per supper so it gives me 2 meals which is awesome :)

I have yet to try a banting pizza in a restaurant that compares to one of these (except the place in Plett where I bought a take away pizza from and it turned out to be one of these bases).

Do they ship to jhb?

You can get two or three varieties of LC bases at Jackson Real Food Market in Bryanston. I've tried the cauliflower bases (meh), and will try one of the seed bases next.

Any idea how to maintain a diet slanted towards banting with high meat prices? EU side even stew meat is stupidly expensive. :(

I don't find myself eating more meat than usual. Actually find myself eating a bit less. Also, at a butcher, you ask for the higher fat grade sheep, you pay less per kilo. I eat more eggs though, a lot more.
I'm actually in planning fase, me and a friend. We are going to test farming with quail on small scale, just to produce meat and eggs for ourselves. We want to see whether we can save a bit on meat prices.

What do you usually buy? Organ meat (liver and kidney in particular) are relatively on the low side price wise. (Though you probably don't want to eat too much liver every day if you're concerned about Hypervitaminosis A)
Tried liver recently...its OK but not my fav.

idk...guess I'll just have to deal with the prices.

No big butcher operations near me - there is one or two but he has a limited selection. Apparently everyone here lives from deepfrozen stuff, ready meals and McD. I can totally get frozen crocodile patties though (no jokes...80% croc rest is veg filler)....kangaroo too.

Well, in the name of LCHF unity, maybe we can buy and you ship them back to JHB or Pretoria? :)

Schitt I miss pizza :(

I've made this bread over the weekend. Best bread I've ever had (the fact that I haven't had any form of bread in the past 30 days may or may not have been influential)

Cheesy bread

½ block Philadelphia cream cheese
3 large eggs at room temp
1 teaspoon cider vinegar
blitz together in food processor

add 2 cups almond flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon mustard powder
1 teaspoon salt
blitz for a few seconds
1 cup cheddar cheese
blitz again for a just a second or until all incorporated. The cheddar cheese must not be mushy

put into a small bread tin and bake at 190 for 45 minutes

Wow, just had a Tbone steak with a side of oven baked cauliflower, covered in cheese with mushrooms and bacon. Awesome.
