The Banting/LCHF Thread

Pick & Pay have Stellenbrau on sale for R89 for two 6-packs.

To my surprise no carbs in them, is this possible?

Recent nutritional tests reveal that Stellenbrau beers are extremely low on carbohydrates and sugars, as well as kilojoules – even more waist friendly than products which traditionally market themselves as ‘light beer’ for the calorie conscious.

The total sugar value in a bottle of Stellenbrau craft beer is 0.0g/100ml and the starch content equates to nil, as a result the Glycaemic carbohydrates also equates to 0.0g/100ml.

“What this means is that the Glycaemic Index is very low, resulting in carbohydrates that break down slowly, releasing glucose gradually into the bloodstream, keeping your blood sugars regulated. This is in actual fact low GI beer,” says De Jager. Although it is brewed as a regular lager beer with very low kilojoule content, it boasts the nutritional value of a ‘light beer’.

Hey guys, just found this thread while looking up information. I've subbed to see what others are doing!

Went from 135kg to 75kg this past year doing lazy keto eating, without any exercise even. (next goal is building muscle)

keto completely changed my appetite, I find I don't think about food nearly as much as I use to, sometimes I go half the day without eating and don't feel or realise it, it's all been way easier then I thought it would be, actually sad I didn't do this sooner in life.

Cool, what’s the diff between Keto and Banting. Any advice on some good Keto recourses ?

Don't know technical differences between all these low carb type diets but keto refers to being in ketosis right?

I tried a lot of different keto friendly foods as time went by and found some that I made permanent.

I hardly ever eat breakfast, just a big bulletproof coffee or tea, I've just never had an appetite when I wake up. I don't get enough fats currently but I try add a bit to the coffee, coconut oil and butter etc. I Usually snack a few hours later, maybe biltong or nuts etc.

Lunch and supper is similar for me. Usually a piece of beef or/pork/chicken/fish and a portion of a brocoli cauliflower, or a creamy spinach or a salad of sorts.

At random times I'll snack on Olives or dairy stuff, Feta cheese, Greek Yoghurt, etc. Pretty much just eat when I feel hungry and try be conscious of keeping a low carb count.

I drink water, coffee, tea, Coke zero and rarely much else.

Also 60kg sounds like a lot but like I said it becomes easy, almost effortless. Found I lost 1-2kg a week, I weighed myself weekly and this lady at work asked me every monday.

On Banting I did 20kg's in 3 months...25 in 4 months. If you starting at a bigger number, the losses are greater. Mathematically, 20 / 3 = 6.6 / month x 12 = 80kg's - straight line. 50 or 60kg's is possible.

Crhistmas day had 1 ginger bread cookie and 1 brownie. Was good to eat some of that, but otherwise a good day! I even shed more kg's in days after christmas! I realise i could up my carb intake easily without compromising ketosis. But I still need to lose a few pounds. Not to far of goal weight now.

Not really. Keto is trying to maintain below 20/25 net carbs, banting is more lenient. Both are a form of low carb but keto is like induction phase permanently whereas banting eases off a bit.

So how much carb a day is banting? I have been keeping to a 25g limit for my banting.

I am going to make banting gummi bears from scatch. I will report results!
