The BMW 320d Fanboy Thread

Guys, any recommendations for an independent BMW super specialist/guru in Cape Town?
Model 2013 320D, sport line. 80k km. Owned since new.
I have the most insanely annoying wobble on the steering. It's been present ever since I had alignment and tyres replaced over 2 years ago. Car was flawless before then.
We've dealer swapped to another set of wheels/tyres, no change, same wobble
Alignment/balancing/rotation of wheels/tyres done multiple times.
Both front shocks replaced (one was toast and was making a nasty knocking sound) the other was replaced in sympathy (though not to my credit card....)
Steering rack bushing kit has been installed as an attempt to rule that out. Ball ends, lower control arms, steering arms etc all checked and apparently ok.
I'm adamant something is wonky , though tracking it down is either very time consuming or expensive........or both.

Check drivetrain - you might have a worn driveshaft bearing, or something similar. Also, also it might be warped disks front or rear, or both.

When do you experience the wobble? While braking? Normal driving? At certain RPM?

Awesome device to check the car out with yes. The onbaord system also let you know if something is not right, even when bulbs fail etc

Check drivetrain - you might have a worn driveshaft bearing, or something similar. Also, also it might be warped disks front or rear, or both.

When do you experience the wobble? While braking? Normal driving? At certain RPM?

wobble is at all speeds really. Not affected by breaking. Disks are fine, not warped.
Have considered drive shaft/bearing. Something to probably get checked

So an update on my purchase venture. I will probably end up buying a 2012 320d with about 120,000km on it. The car is in good condition and taking a mechanic with tomorrow to view it for the final time. It's been through the Dekra check and no faults were picked up. Everything is in line with the mileage.

The amount of crap I've gotten from family and friends because I'm going the BMW route is crazy.

What's even funnier is that the insurance on the 320d is cheaper than the Polo's.

Don’t listen to the haters, they just jealous


My first bmw was a bit of a rocky ride , endless electrical issues on a 320i , but not a missed beat with the diesels.

Contemplating keeping my x3 a bit longer than what I usually keep a car

I actually had one in traffic today, also in blue. Granted, it was an ‘M 320i’

Any G20 320D drivers here? (non/pre LCI)
Experiences ? Maintenance issues/concerns ?
What is your spec and things you wished you'd changed / ordered/not ordered etc.
eg, 19' vs 18' wheel/tyres combo, cost to replace, MSport vs non msport suspension etc.
I'm coming from a F30 320D, so familiar with most things BMW...though looking for a little inside owner experiences....
I'm starting to look for a good pre-owned example.......

I'm officially a 320d owner now. Yay! Took it for a nice drive yesterday. A jet flew quite low overhead and I thought the car was packing up. I nearly had a heart attack.

It's fun having a powerful car again.

Sport mode is boss for overtaking. Even in eco mode the car has plenty power to spare.

The car has 2 different types of tyres on front and back. One set of Bridgestone's and another of Continental's. My OCD wants it all to be 1 brand. Leaning towards Continental's.

My personal 5c if you going to stay with runflats, then the Pirelli P7’s have been the best , the Bridgestone alenza have so far been the worst , conti’s in the middle somewhere , found them a bit noisy

I drove mine none run flats, was much cheaper quieter on the road. Run flats always noisy. Insurance company problem if there is a flat.
