Please get it looked at by an electrician and a mechanic. The parts you’ve mentioned except the radio aren’t cheap to get sorted properly.

F30 licenced 1st 2012 so the person selling this has no idea what they have.

Silver grill and bumber combo also looks from a lux line maybe?

Looks like a Frankenstein Code something rebuild. Never mind the obvious body work damage. Pass from me

Seems be modern line, which was sold for very short while when it was released.

Yeha def will be 2012.

Worse case is offer guy 50k which gives me gearbox and working engine :P

If you have the space, tools and knowhow to make a nice project - go for it!

Found the ad, looks like the front passenger side has had a ding, the interior will need a deep deeep deeeeeeep clean, the beige is more like brown,


its a diesel , but the " petrol dial" doesnt move :ROFL:

The seat Belts, you could maybe luck out there, if i recall, there was a service campaign for this.

biggest thing, check its service history, as long as its had some love, 172k on a 12 year old car isnt too rough.


Looking at the head lights, in the ad , you can see the one seems to have water / condensation on the inside, so budget for a new one.

At this price, you not going to get a perfect car, lets face it, there are rusted out vw beetles selling for more lol

Yeha seens few aftermarket radios even originals is not badly prices overseas, but you have get orginal ones coded which can be messy.

The F30 series does store history on infortainment system, but doubt be able to access it without the screen working :P

Oke says can come have look monday, just worried I might buy it and not sure what to tell the wife haha

You can never have enough diesels in the driveway!

if you have the vin number , you can also check on the bmw website :)

coding, get the enet cable and software ( yes might be sketchy) off bobshop , there are loads of tutorials on how to code them on youtube
 
Hi guys,

I was recently involved in an accident and my car is a write off. It was a 2013 Polo. I had a T-Roc but sold it last year because it was chilling in the garage too much (only used for long trips with everyone in the car, really) and the Polo was driven way more often (We work from home and the shops are about 600m away from us). My goal was to keep the Polo for the kids until they are old enough to drive. A small car in which I planned to have them drive themselves to school while they are learners (with one of us being present in the car, of course).

Anyway, I'm looking at getting a 2nd hand 320d to fill the void of the Polo.

I have a few questions regarding 320d ownership as I've seen a few that have piqued my interest
  1. Any critical points of failure after long term use? Eg. Overhauling an engine, gearbox and the likes. (Most of the cars I've owned I've driven beyond 150,000km).
  2. Considering the above question, what do I need to check for on a 2nd hand 320d?
  3. Service costs if the intervals between services are 15,000km?
  4. Any regular maintenance items such as brakes, shocks, CV joints etc. I should be aware of? An estimate on costs would be great too.
  5. What can I do to increase the reliability of the vehicle? I tend to fix things as soon as they break and I like "future proofing" items with good quality parts.
  6. Do I service privately or at BMW? I have always serviced my vehicles at the relevant manufacturer - expensive, I know. A recommendation of a private company that services this vehicle would also be appreciated.
  7. Fuel - I am assuming it's best to fill up with 50ppm?
  8. Any year models that I should avoid?
  9. Any specific engines I should avoid?
  10. Is it worth buying extended warranty on the vehicle?
  11. Maintenance and reliability of the automatic gearbox?

I'm happy to take a car with 100,000km on it as long as it's solid. I don't want to break down on the side of the road. I may also take the car for a trip to the WC or EC every now and then.

Anything else that I should be aware of? What do I avoid?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Once you have identified a potential vehicle, phone up your local BMW / 3rd party mechanic to get a quote. I would say, service costs are reasonable. 19inch runflats can be expensive tho
  5. What can I do to increase the reliability of the vehicle? I tend to fix things as soon as they break and I like "future proofing" items with good quality parts.

You migth right choice go 320D!

1. None really, the gearbox might need oil change you can do that at ZF, BMW does not do that service they call it lifetime oil. Its not really lifetime lol

2. There very little really goes wrong, try find decent spec one rather, most them missing decent extra's. You would really want one with 8 inch navigation, front park assist, rear camera, sunroof if you like that kind of stuff.
3.Services are condition based, the infortainment system will let you when to service could be 12k to even 18k sometimes. They R2500 minor at bmw and R4500 for major, every 3rd service is major.
4. Main thing to try and to gearbox oil change at ZF.
5. I like to add liquad moly diesel system cleaner every 5000 km.
6.Bmw is fine for services, they very good priced.
7. Yep 50ppm, 10ppm is awesomr if you can find some in jhb.
8. Pre 2014 did not have bluetooth audio streaming, you had pay for that optional or have upgraded navigation which did have it. So they and avoid not having the older infortainment system. The older ones are find if it is optional 8 inch navigation system.
9. They all good n47t and B47 in the facelift.
10. Not worth it.
11. Just have service done at ZF agents.

You would want look F30 and F30 facelift.

Thanks for the feedback. I'd say about R200k budget. Currently looking at the F30 currently as @Gtx Gaming suggested.

Awesome, thank you. With the current budget it seems I'll have to add the navigation system in afterwards. Bluetooth is quite NB when driving.

Regular costs related items sound reasonable.

Guys, any recommendations for an independent BMW super specialist/guru in Cape Town?
Model 2013 320D, sport line. 80k km. Owned since new.
I have the most insanely annoying wobble on the steering. It's been present ever since I had alignment and tyres replaced over 2 years ago. Car was flawless before then.
We've dealer swapped to another set of wheels/tyres, no change, same wobble
Alignment/balancing/rotation of wheels/tyres done multiple times.
Both front shocks replaced (one was toast and was making a nasty knocking sound) the other was replaced in sympathy (though not to my credit card....)
Steering rack bushing kit has been installed as an attempt to rule that out. Ball ends, lower control arms, steering arms etc all checked and apparently ok.
I'm adamant something is wonky , though tracking it down is either very time consuming or expensive........or both.

'These guys are very decent, they basically the vagspec to bmw cars.
