If you don't know the weight of the bar
...you don't know what exact weight you lifting.
Egzaccles

1) Climb on scale... take note of weight
2) Climb on scale with bar... take note of weight
3) Subtract 2) from 1) :D

4) Take pic of bar and post here - we might be able to tell you just by looking at it.

No worries. Thats why this thread is here, to help everyone learn :)

In my opinion, most people on this thread know more than most people at the gym. There is of coarse the exception, of a select few individuals at the gym that really knows a lot, but I wouldn't listen to any random guy at the gym. On here at least, if you say something radical, you should be prepared to back it up with links on resources on the internet, as people will very quickly out you for saying something completely wrong.

Just learnt that the hard way :crylaugh:

Thanks for the correction gents, honestly thought it was the norm to exclude the bar from your bench weight...

Tell him he's a noob. But only if he benched less than you :D
180 is a very respectable bench :)
Now if you go to the same gym day in and out it's probably OK to not bother with the bar, after all you are benching relative to what you do every other time, but if you travel and use hotel gyms, it can be embarrassing if you use a lighter bar at home only to find the extra 10kg is more than you're prepared for and you don't have a spotter. I learned that the hard way :D

Impressive. It always amazes me how much stronger men are. My number feels so unimpressive next to that :crylaugh:

How long you been lifting?

Unrelated, but my calves grew 2cm each in two weeks. I am very happy with that.

Hahaha he is much bigger than I am, although he probably has many more years in the gym than I do.

Makes sense, only ever use the same gym so won't make much of a difference to me.

This was basically a (successful) PR attempt, it was really ****ing heavy lol

Well done! One question though: why do you keep turning your head to the side?

one thing I noticed about gym is how ugly the form is on a lot of the so called 'experts' at the gym

I see some big guys swinging heavy weights all the time with terrible form

Form is overrated. It's a good lesson for a noob to learn simply because you're inclined to cheat by using bad form (without realising it). If you've been at it for years, sometimes you just go heavier than you can lift with 'good form' to target a certain goal. Here's a good example... watch that heavy curl - terrible form, and the lighter full range - extending with your triceps - but it's all for a purpose (and this workout is a killer - try it if you don't believe me).

The trick is to know what you're trying to achieve and make sure you're doing that properly.
Typical bodybuilders lol at Crossfitters doing hundreds of Kipping pull-ups, but the reality is, you have a goal, and that's what you're trying to achieve. Bodybuilders and Crossfitters generally have different goals.

I have Autism.

Lol I do it sometimes when benching heavy to make sure my bar path is correct. It's nothing special and looks a bit odd. I was afraid of hitting the spikes on the rack.

When you are trying to prove a point, try to use another video other than from sixpackshortcuts.

I get what you are saying, but those guys are full of ****.

:D Maybe move a bit lower down on the bench. Your only focus should be on getting that bar up. I've also heard of a few guys pulling muscles in their necks doing similar things.
