The Bodybuilders Thread: Circuit II

Whilst doing squats I get a sort of shooting pain in my right knee cap, only on the right. I do ass to the grass squats but not even heavy.

Any idea what is going on?

Have you warmed up properly? Most of my pains was when I didnt warm up, or there was something wrong before I started.

For me warming up before workout, and stretching after is important.

but there could be something else going on, like a nerve getting pinched or something.

Yes I do warm up but probably not nearly enough. Its a weird pain thats difficult to explain but its only there when I push up for the squats.

I go through stages with this. I've had it pretty bad before but can't put my finger on what causes it.
Sometimes I just press through it, other times I listen to my body and give it a break. If it's an injury, it should be gone in a few days if you rest it.

Also think I might give it a rest, squats and leg press.

Knee pain when squatting is usually caused by your knees not being in line with your feet when going down/up. This is usually caused by your feet being too close together, or your feet not being angled out far enough (30 degrees is usually recommended) - both will put your knees under more strain than they need to be. I'd recommend experimenting with no load first. Angle your feet more so that your knees basically flare out with them when you go down. Widen your stance if you have to.

But most importantly, as has already been said, listen to your body.

Cool, think I should first give that a try before resting. I also feel like im pushing up with my toes, is that how you should do it or more with the heel?

Hmmm, that sounds like you may be leaning too far forward - so your centre of gravity is off. Remember that the bar needs to move in a straight line down and up. You should be powering back up through your heels, though (the bar should basically be in line with them). Also, how is your ankle flexion? You could be using your toes because your ankle doesn't bend enough. Try this, with no load: get your optimal foot placement right, and then place a 5kg plate where your heels would be. Squat with your heels on the plates to see if that makes any difference (it basically mimics the effect of squatting shoes, which have a raised heel).

Thanks, will do.

Yo can I lift yet?

I've been out of hospital for 4 days - or was it 3 idfk. Still feeling the effects, but I need to do something lol.

Maybe a light bench session.

Well I went and lifted anyways;

Crazy how weak I am and how much weight I lost.

Granted I was cutting since the start of Feb, but here's how it went;

Weigh 81 kg's at start of cut.
Weigh 79.6 kg's on 16th of Feb

Go for surgery, fast and unable to eat/vomit a whole lot for two days.

Weigh 77 kg's today, even after being out of hospital and eating normally for two days. (the worst part is my bf% didn't go down much so I lost some fullness)

I was only able to put up 75 kg's today! 75! This is coming from 115 peak during my bulk. Sad.

But apparently surgery/anesthesia kills your hormone levels for a few weeks.

I have something similar with my left knee cap.

But it only happens if I don't concentrate on pushing my knees outwards during the squat.

I will have to relook at my form, will go and search for a couple of videos on youtube.

Definitely should be pushing with the heel more then. Should be pretty much center of both. Roll the bar slightly further back on your shoulders and see if that helps.

You lost some water, trust me. Muscle memory - it'll bounce right back.

Made me tear up lol, I'm happy for him.

Strength gradually increasing again, which is nice.

Gonna end my cut at 75 kg's whether I have abs or not lol. My goal weight is 90kg's, but I'll probably only hit that like in a year or more.

when you expect to be sore the next day ....aaaaand nothing, my weighted pull ups stalled a bit and my squat needed a kick up the arse so I switched to my plateau breaker, 10x3 really heavy and I scraped through those last two sets, I feel it ever so slightly in my hammies but my back feels awesome
