The Bodybuilders Thread: Circuit II

Personally I would advise to just add more calories to his current meals. As somebody who admits to overthinking things he might be better off with planning less meals until he gets a better hang of things.
Dude its impossible. I leave for work at 6am for 7am and i leave at 16h00 for 17h00. and then I have to go gym. there is just not enough time.
Then do as Apoc suggested. Bigger meals. You need food to grow. But seeing as you are starting, follow your diet for 2 weeks and see how you feel and if its possible, increase your meal sizes.

Goodluck, its not easy when you have to start eating so much food.

So? I leave for work 5:25am for 6am, and both me and wife still get in Breakfast before we go to work. We do have trouble having lunch at work made the night before, but when we do have extra food thats what we have the next day for lunch at work. If you really want, its do-able, we just sometimes lazy.

I need an explanation of some advice.
So I've started going over to the banting diet, because I realized that I am becoming more insulin resistance (I picked up 10kgs since I left school 10 years ago and couldnt get rid of it). I have never been overweight (Max 70kgs, I am 1.78m tall), but I had an issue putting on muscle, despite being quite a fit person (I walk, hike and run a lot).

I am not sure why, but since I am on a ketogenic diet, my calves are growing and I am actually getting biseps and a 6 pack creeping up. This is a guy who had the common engineering syndrome of being skin, bone and poephol alone, destines to be lean but without a single muscle in my body.

I have seen a youtube video that insulin might block amino acids from getting into the cell for some people (I couldn't confirm the scientific source behind this and there is a lot of BS on nutrition, so I take it with a pinch of salt).

Basically I have been doing the following

1. Eating more or less a banting diet (green veggies, Tomato, eggs, bacon, and duck (fois gras is awesome in France). I cut all sugar and starches, I never likes that stuff, except for Pap (which does not exist in Paris).

2. Doing cardio 3 times a week, I am running for about 1.5 hours in the gym without stopping (Which is around 18kms on the tredmill). For the next 30 hours I do what I call army exercises (pull ups, push up, crunches and situps).

3. Once a week I try to go on the machines, I am doing normal squads for now, given that I will probably snap my poephol if I had to lift actual weight.

4. I go swimming once a week for about an hour, at our work we have a nice olympic piscine and I always have two lanes to myself.

Anyways, on the banting, I managed to lose the 10kgs in about 2 months, but now my muscle is keeping up and I have build up to about 2kgs of muscle mass, which is really something that is surprising to me.

I get up at 5:20am every day, go to gym to do 30-40 minutes of fasted cardio, get to work at 8, leave at 17:00, go to gym to train, get home around 8pm, and am in bed around 10-11.

Please tell me why you don't have enough time?

I've never heard someone make as many excuses as Random Hero. He wants results but is not willing to put in any work.

Random Hero, guess why most people don't have the body they want? Because it takes some effort and work, and they aren't willing to do that. I really don't want to get up at 5am every day. I really don't want to be on a stepper or treadmill everyday thinking about my first meal. I really don't want to have to eat my oats sitting in my sweaty hoodie on the only couch in the entire gym while everyone walks to the change rooms and looks at me funny. I also don't want to be cracking and separating 10 eggs every night at 9pm, or living out of a tog bag every day of the week.

But guess what? My desire for a killer physique and results far outweighs my desire to sleep in, or to eat that pizza slice, or give up on my goals.

Want results? Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

Get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

One of my many mantras when I am facing a very hard workout (or an early morning). Also use: "Suck it up buttercup" often.

I find I'm more motivated by "Suck it up buttercup", but hey, whatever works for you :p

My morning cardio is fueled by YouTube videos of some of my favourite BBers and Men's Physique competitors. I just think about all of the countless hours they put in to get to where they are now, and how many times they've had to have the exact same little talks and lectures with themselves when they want to quit or don't want to put in the work. When it comes down to it the only thing that separates them from the rest of us is the fact they they didn't give up.

We all only have 24 hours in a day...

(I'm obviously not referring to their superior genetics, that's what separates their actual physiques from the rest of us, but in terms of how they reached their goals it just comes down to not giving up and putting in the work.)

speaking of times whats everybody's ideal workout time, I hate mornings so that's out for me, depending on the routine I can squeeze a lunchtime session between 13:00-14:00 or immediately after work from 16:30-18:00

Oh my. That was quite a bad typo...

Agreed, and if I could impart any advise out of the volumes that can be given, is that consistency is key.

Monday-Friday - After Work. 17h15.
Saturday - After work. 12h15 . If I'm not working it is always earlier like 10h00.
Sunday - HIIT cardio usually around 6h30. Weights, as soon as I can. Never later than 13h00.

I like to spend quality time with the kids over weekends so I get the workouts out of the way as soon as possible.

Midweek: 20:30 - 21:30 when the gym is nice and quiet and I can do my 10 sets of 5\3\1 squats in peace :)
Sat\Sunday 16:00-17:00

this used to be my favourite time, nothing like doing 10 sets of 3 on the deadlift with no one bothering you

While I'm really not trying to make excuses for the benefit of anyone, less than 7 hours of sleep is the worst thing for any type of exercise.

My worst gym sessions weren't because my diet was schit for the day/week, it was because I did not get sufficient sleep the night before.

Sleep is critical for gainz.

100% with you on this one mate. I aim for 7 but average about 5 and a half unfortunately. The days I get 6+ I train better/harder, thus better gains.
Not that I'm into building muscle specifically though, but general mind set, energy and endurance levels are way better in any case.
