The Bodybuilders Thread: Circuit II

Rehidrate is an excellent electrolyte replacement drink. Can be a little expensive if you use it plenty. Most of my Comrades running friends use it.

I have East London half iron coming up in 15 weeks, and I want to drop 5kgs by then as the course has a solid 45km of climbing on the bike. Want to start help offsetting fatigue/increased difficulty perception with caffeine, but wondering how quickly do you guys become adapted to caffeine? Do you guys ever stop usage to ensure you don't become too caffeine resistant?

Quick question: Gym schedule is normally 3-4 times a week. These last 2 weeks have been really busy and have only managed to 3 times in the last 2 weeks. Any major muscle or mass loss do you think? Or will it be weeks without activity?

If you hit it hard enough, yes.

And in the beginning, yes.

But after a while you will need to increase volume and frequency to continue seeing gains.

CONSISTENCY!

Awesome thanks, Been gymming with my bosses Boyfriend. he said I should go lighter and do many sets. like 12 sets of 30 reps.

Also, do you know if its okay if I make omelettes for breakfast a week in advance?

No. Don't make eggs a week in advance. Yuk. Am omelette is easy to make in the mornings. You can pre-prepare the fillings a few days in advance (chop it up and put into little bags for each omelette) to save time.

Also, don't keep changing your routine. We have said it a million times: consistency. If you keep changing up your workouts, you will not know what is working and what is not. Stick with something, and if it does not yield results, then you change it up.

Question: what are your thoughts of these high protein chocolate bars on the market? Snack of them during the day or after workout?

As a regular dietary supplement, protein bars generally have lots of sugar in them anyway,

But if you have a box stashed away, and have one every now and again when you crave something sweet, then they're definitely healthier than a regular chocolate bar.

Sadly, I crave sweet things daily.

I loved SSA’s fudge nougat, almost no carbs or fat and lots of protein (other brands usually have a lot of sugar), and it tasted amazing. Whenever the cravings would kick in, I would grab one. But not being allowed a second mortgage on my house , I had to cut down (yes the freakin things are that pricey)

Thanks, which brands out there would you say are the "healthiest"

I make my egg meal (meal 2 ~ 09:30am) the night before. Some days I boil them, some days I fry, some days I make an omelette, scramble etc. 9 whites and 1 whole egg, usually with some onion, tomato, lettuce.

I don't have time at 5:30am to make eggs before heading off to do cardio.

That’s it f&@k this eating at a deficit crap. Two weeks ago I was squatting 147 today 110 kicked my ass. I use to be able to do 165 on deadlift now 135 and it feels like a train pulled me along

What's a a good supplement or drink to keep muscle cramps at bay? For some reason I can't cycle very long or do too much bicep work before it starts to feel like the muscles want to cramp. Or is this due to a lack of stretching or something?

Reading this again, and I realised cramping could also flare up if you have not done a good warm up. I get bad cramps when I start running at threshold pace without a proper warm-up. I also take a supplement which has magnesium, calcium and zinc. I take two each morning and maybe another two after a hard day. I very rarely suffer from cramping these days. I use https://store.feelhealthy.co.za/shop/solgar-calcium-magnesium-plus-zinc/

They are full of sugars. Not worth it. Rather eat lean biltong. Much tastier and healthier imo. If you have a sugar craving, eat fruit. Watermelon, blue berries, strawberries, oranges, apples, etc are all pretty low in calories and have a decent amount of fibre in them. The processed sugars will spike your insulin and make your sugar cravings worse.

I also hard boil eggs and keep a bunch in the fridge. Nice on the go snack. The evening before is not too bad. I generally just scramble my eggs after I walk in the door from my morning session. I love scrambled eggs. It's a treat for me in the mornings. The secret is to under cook them. By the time you transfer them to your plate, they will be perfect. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/08/07/scrambled-eggs-mistakes-tips_n_3714926.html

last few weeks Ive been feeling like this, where everything seems to have stalled, my weighted pullups and dips feel meh I can barely get my chin over with 45 attached before I was maxing out on 50. squats are meh too the only think that feels good is actually my deadlift

Think it’s time I go back to maintenance and reboot

Something that I found helped a lot was eating to maintenance every Saturday and Sunday.

This helps me stick to my diet and target calories during the week, while also giving me some freedom do have a slightly more relaxed diet during the weekend when I see my friends and family.

I read a study somewhere, sorry not sure where, that showed that taking the odd day or 2 off every couple of weeks helped prevent your metabolism from adapting to the lower calories and the group with maintenance days actually lost more fat than the group that stayed in a deficit.

And even if that isn't the case the maintenance days aren't setting you back at all.

But that's just my experience

Glad I can be of assistance, during my cut while dieting like this my strength consistently increased while my weights and fat decreased constantly.

Not sure if it was entirely or even at all due to this but those are the results I saw.
