The Bodybuilders Thread: Circuit II

Don't know what reverse pyramid training is and don't have a tricep machine.

It is basically what Martin advocates with his LeanGains program.

Heaviest weight on first set.
drop 10% weight and do more reps
drop 20% weight and do more reps.

Especially considering the constraints I have (dumbbells and kettlebells only), I follow the advice in the link below:

Basically, it doesn't matter as much as you think it does.

I know it basically comes down to volume. Have not read the link yet. Will listen to the Podcast tonight.

Busy cutting and my body is taking a pounding with the higher weights at the moment because I was first set on maintaining most of my strength and also muscle mass.

Saw on LeanGains reddit sub (you know I'm following IF protocol) that most people advocate a RPT scheme while cutting as it gives your body a bit of a breather.

Once I'm finished cutting I will again switch back to a higher volume to first maintain and then gain slow lean mass. Would like to keep going with the IF approach as it is sustainable. And because the wife is also following the protocol now with great results. Easier for her when both people in the household follow the same eating plan. I'm much more disciplined and flexible but I want to support her in her goals.

If I do lose some strength during the cutting phase because I'm switching up volume I'm not going to worry too much. I know I will gain that back rapidly once I start eating properly and lifting heavy again.

If anybody is going to the gym tonight or tomorrow morning. Care to do me a favour please?

Please can you give me an approx height from the ground up of the tricep pushdown bar while it is still inactive. So before you pull it down to start the exercise.

I'm building my own "cable machine" onto my existing DIY power rack so that I can add tricep pushdowns, lat pull downs, face pulls and cable crunches to my workouts. Just need an estimate of the height.

And can anybody confirm if the height of the cable is the same for all the exercises I mentioned? So do you use the same setting on the machine?

Thanks

Just got back from gym

The cable machine attachment sits about 2m high off the ground.
But since you are building your own I think it would be better to customize it to what feels best for you. I doubt it would deviate much though unless you are an ent....

Our cable machine is adjustable to any height from the ground level to the 2m mark (or bi's to tri's :D ).

That should be a good height for tricep pushdowns, lat pulldowns, and cable crunch's.

When i do face pulls i tend to move the pulley about face height but if you adjust your body positioning it works just as well.

On another note.

Anybody doing reverse pyramid training?

I do, to help with meeting my strength targets.

your warm up game needs to be on point if you do this. Muscles and joints. It is balance between being warmed up enough to not hurt/break anything and not warmed up too much so that you cannot move your max weight.

Thank you so much for this.

Mine will probably be hanging at 1.8m because my power rack is only 2m high. Sure it will be enough.

As for the face pulls. I will either have to stand on my wooden box when doing them or I will have to add a third pulley and longer cable into the system so that the cable height is much lower. After watching a few videos I see the cable coming from a high angle will not work.

For what is is worth.

Nutritech Amino Pre on special at Chrome for R199.

I'm not usually one for pre-workouts but this helped me tremendously when I struggled with workouts during the heat waves.

Cooler now so I only use it when I do fasted HIIT running on weekends and if I still find it too hot some days.

Great product. Just stay clear of the Lemon Lime flavour. Not nearly as nice as the Arctic Berry.

It is not stimulant free. Lots of caffeine. But the BCAA dosage is very decent.

Glad i could help :D . 1.8m sounds plenty

Good luck with the build, you should def post pic's of final set up.

Doing face pulls with the bar/rope on top will work. Just take 3 or 4 steps to the back then it should be good to go.

I don't do pre-workouts. Just a peanut butter sandwich 1h30 before my workout and sip on some Creatine and BCAA's during the workout.

I cant justify using pre-workout if it has no nutritional value but just to get a pump or for energy. Its all in the mind

Where do you put in the code ? I can't find the "Discount code" textbox.

Jip. It is right at the first step of checking out. Think the box is called voucher code or something.

Here is a screenshot of where the code needs to go.

It is right on the first page when you proceed to checkout.
