Miffed.

Bought myself a new longer barbell bar at Sportsman's Warehouse over the weekend (old bar was too short and I reached weight limit/space). Never got around to trying it out because we had family over. Imagine my disappointment on Sunday evening when I want to load my weights for bench pressing on and I find out the weights don't fit. Hole diameter of the weights are too small. Aarrgh...!! Had to wing it with old max weight. Did 2 extra sets.

I also bought a new bench this weekend.

Also bought that bar but had some weights to fit it, the weights that don't fit i made a plan using rope through eye of weight plate and just dangle it from the bar.

Just phoned and they will gladly exchange it for me.

But according to them I did not buy an Olympic bar. Just their standard bar. Olympic bar is R1000+ and I only paid R310.

I'll just take one of my weights with me when I go and exchange it.

They have 3 bar sizes for some reason, the standard all round size you can get at game as well, the one you bought which is thicker and then the Olympic one with thick attachments on either side for olympic plates.

Anybody else doing hack squats?

Do you also hit your calves/ankles on the way down?

They are almost last in my leg day program so I am pretty fatigued and the burn is hectic when I do them so I'm sure my form isn't 100%

So I have strict orders not to exercise for two weeks.

Was admitted to the emergency room last night with a suspected heart attack. I collapsed while doing lunges with all the symptoms of a light heart attack.

Lots of tests later and discharged at 3am this morning it turns out I have a viral infection (probably been a while) that affects the heart muscles. My intense workouts didn't help according to the docs.

Strict orders to rest for 2 weeks and a bag full of meds to clear up the infection.

Hectic man. That must have been quite frightening. I hope you recover quickly and ease back into it slowly.

Wasn't fun at all. Deep down you know it can't be a heart attack but you still don't want to risk it. I know people younger than myself who have suffered from strokes and heart attacks.

As I bent down to get in to the standing calve raise machine I pulled a muscle in my back...been nursing it over the weekend and feeling a bit better - but don't think its quite ready for gym this afternoon. A little bum'd out!!!

My back is still out. Need a walking stick to get out of bed. Three weeks now.

You know that...the last few days I've been feeling a little congestion in my chest...a little burning feeling...but thought I was being paranoid...but after reading your post I said to my wife today that I really do feel a bit chesty (no term I can think of) so I am going to take off gym this week and rather be safe. Thanks for your post - made me think a little.

Even though I am really committed and have been pushing as hard as I could the last 2 and a half months since I started gyming and I am a little bum'd out I need to take some time out - my life is worth a lot more.

Thanks again for sharing!

Yeah sucks...I have some very high goals for year end...and taking time out does not help..but like i just said to Apoc I anyway feel a little off so two reasons for a break. For me maybe God's way of making sure I so :)

Take it easy guys, winter means more pulled muscles from not warming up properly.Pulled my back near my liver, not fun.

Also have a "chesty" pain that comes and goes though.
Been testing my Blood pressure every evening and I'm in dead middle of the green Zone.
Also slowed down on the intensity of my exercises.

Do you take any bodybuilding meds like those fat burners that make your heart race?
I'm avoiding ALL supplements except Protein shakes these days, I want to watch my Son's grow into men, i love gymming and sure I can get there without those "other" supps.

My achilles heel at the moment it Barbell Bench press, just grinds my shoulders and I have tried every which variation and grip I can youtube to try and avoid it.
Luckily, dumbbells are the solution and Saturday NO grinding and no after pain in my shoulder joint - sounds like you'll have to give up on some back exercises and renovate your routine like I had to.

I only use whey protein and creatine. Glutamine finished a while back and I didn't get again because I could notice any difference while using it.
