One of my twin sons had bacterial meningitis when he was just over 2 yrs old. He spent 12 days in hospital. Luckily he was treated in hospital the week before for an infection, so the meningitis was considered partially-treated. Was a scary time as a parent, especially when reading about worst case scenarios.

Dad is that you :o

Welcome back :) What have you been doing to keep active and retain as much muscle mass as you can? Perfect time to get shredded, I hope you used the time off wisely?

Yeah, are you good to hit the weights again?

I started a 2 week intro course at a new Crossfit 'box' in Century City. Apparently I have a perfect squat I take that with a pinch of salt but I guess squatting in the gym the past year and a bit helped get my form right.

Crossfit? In the bodybuilding section? What's going on here!!?

:p

I felt so stupid last night. We were doing arms last night at the gym and I was waiting for my sister to do her set when this guy next to us ask me something. I could not hear so well (I do seem to have a problem distinguishing speech from background noise) and I thought he asked me if I wanted him to spot me. I said no thank you (considering that I was not doing anything that needed spotting). He looked really surprised and then kind of hurt almost. I was like "why is he so upset?" and then I asked what is wrong? He then said he just really wanted me to spot HIM. I was Oooooooohh. OK. I then told him I have never spotted anyone before but sure, I will do it for him. Thank god he had nice breath. Was nice to feel his muscles working. He has really nice arms. Good thing he was not my type. I might have ended up with a "embarrassing situation" lol

Just a funny story really I thought I would share. Anyway. Carry on.

right, because correct form is what crossfit is all about :p
Well that is the idea isn't it though granted not everyone is going to adhere to it? The only bad form type stuff that comes to mind are the kipping pullups?

Love watching the "fail" crossfit videos on YouTube, especially the box jumping videos and the other "exercises" they get up to like hand stands etc.
Looks like a surefire way to get injured if you are not coached correctly.

Agreed, but Google "fail" anything and you will find appalling examples. And yeah, things like hand stands are fairly advanced and not to be attempted by noobs.

Does anyone use protection when doing squats?
I have the bar in a low position across my delts and I keep getting sores on my spine.
I have seen what looks like little patches in some pics and videos. The problem it's I have a tattoo there, and the constant scabs are gonna eventually ruin it.
Any suggestions?

Don't laugh... But when I first started out I used my wife's breast feeding pillow (looks like those sleeping pillows for airplanes, just bigger).

It didn't work too well and I learned to put it on the meatiest part of my delts.

EDIT: Exactly like this. Just a pink flowery one :D

^^ If there is someone willing to buy it perhaps they might like to buy some of his used underwear too? :p

Sounds to me you are his type :D

"Hey, can you spot for me?"

"No, sorry mate, not today"

"But..but...I likes yooo! Pretty please!"

"Oh, ok, ffs!"

"Yah! Thanks. Oh, feel free to touch me to correct my form.."

lol. I just felt really bad because I must him and my answer to his question was a flat out no, but thinking he asked me if I need him to spot me. He must have though "jesus, what a complete cnt!" Then when the misunderstanding was cleared up I felt stupid cause I did not know what to do as I have never done it before. He was cool about it though and explained what is expected of me. There is another guy at the gym though that I really would not mind spotting. :D
