A bit off topic - but it is strength training I suppose:

I'm looking for a tractor tyre or a big truck tyre for boxing training.

The aim is to beat it with a sledehammer and to use it for flips.

I've tried emailing the usual suspects like Tiger wheel and tyre, Speedy, Supaquick etc but i've had no reply.

I'm based in CPT. Any idea where I can pick one up for mahala or for a small fee.

Thanks,
J

Don't think emailing those guys is gonna help, those places tend to be terrible with email so even less likely they will reply especially as they aren't going to make a sale off you. Try phoning them.

Else, phone the training places that have such tyres and ask them very nicely if they could point you in the right direction. I see that http://roarkgyms.com/ has tyres in the background of that deadlift vid i posted, so u could ask them too.

http://www.redemptionmartialarts.co.za/ have tyres for training at their premises too.

Muaythai, MMA places and maybe Crossfit gyms might have tyres...

Awesome, I did squats and deadlifts tonight and my grip is slowly adjusting to life without gloves  Deadlifts back up to 80kg and squats up to 65kg now, but left knee a bit creaky. Maybe need a longer warmup on rowing machines before the squats. Currently only doing a 3-4min warmup.
<edit>It's only my knees holding me back on squats, can feel my leg muscles aren't being that taxed yet. </edit>

Probably hovering just below Novice level according to strength standards i.t.o. one rep max though I have only used the calculator to determine that, am not trying to do any actual one rep maxes.

I am pretty much the smallest dude in the gym, so I have a lot to prove :p Slowly but surely will get there :D

Try Farmers in your area, they usually have old one's lying around.

I was thinking the same... Perhaps create a seperate thread in the off topic section headed 'Looking for an old tractor tyre' - you're likely to get a better response.

Having a really crap time in gym... only doing bench until next week, giving my lower back time to heal - and each week I can bench less :p

Thankfully muscle memory is real :) Rather let it heal properly - another three of four sessions when it's better and you'll be back into it.

I was deadlifting yesterday - stiff leg - and I couldn't help notice the pull in my upper back (lats) by the 4th/5th set. Reps are highish (12). Never noticed my back like that with a deadlift. I did just recently do a back session though (2 days ago).

My week in the gym so far is...so so. Started light again, after taking a week off and having a short holiday over the long weekend. Surprisingly, I feel terrible at legs vs upper body at the moment. So will put some focus back on to legs.

I'm enjoying supersetting my squats with lunges (no weight for lunges). I just follow up a set of squats with 20 lunges (10 each leg)... burns nicely. It also gives you good value when you aren't squatting at your heaviest, or want to go lighter. Jumping lunges with low weight (10-20kg) also help - try doing 20 of those after a set of squats :p

What's a good alternative to back squats if my knees keep holding me back? Am thinking I will keep the weight squatted around my bodyweight until I am sure going heavier won't be a problem.

I love deadlifts though, it's my favourite exercise because I am making nice gains and it feels like i am far from reaching a plateau.

Lol had such an awesome day today at college xD

I'm actually a little embarrassed.

We did insanity, we're being taught it and will be graded on a presentation we give.

I always wear hoodies and jackets but I was sweatin so I took off my top and I was wearing a tank top underneath. I got so many comments about my body!

And I walked to the next class I was a little late and one guy started going 'oooh michael yster' and then a bunch of his friends joined and then everyone in the class did it. The teacher even jokingly touched my arm.

Really made me feel good about myself. I honestly did not think anyone would care, I'm really not big. But I guess it's just the improvement I made and that they have not seen me for 3 weeks. There are 2 other guys in my class that are HYOOOGE and much bigger than me.

I have such an awesome class xD

I hope this isn't too much to ask, but could some of you guys share some decent tasting clean-bulking/cutting recipes? I'm getting to that stage (again) where I'm getting bored of my diet.

And preferably whole foods; there are millions of recipes involving protein powders. I want to avoid these as I have more than enough.

Muchos gracias!

Did chest on monday, was sore the whole of yesterday, still sore today so ended up skipping my back routine yesterday and going to incorporate it i today.
Then tomorrow my back will hurt and I might need to skip another day........a bit confused as most articles I have come across state you should rather rest when doms comes along.
If I had done back yesterday it would of been a dull workout, I know for sure I would not have pushed as far as I will today.
