My problem with DL is my grip. I am certain that I can handle more weight than I do but towards the end I end up losing finger strength (if that makes sense)

I regularly do 5x5 140-180kgs If i try to go up higher my fingers slip, which means I can only try for 1RM for the higher weights
That's fine, it just means you need to work on grip strength. There are various strategies out there.

First thing you can try is:
- both hands overhand grip on warmup sets.
- work sets only, switch to reverse grip, 1 hand over, 1 thumb over. this will immediately allow you to go heavier. be certain to not activate your biceps, unless you want to tear it, thus keep arms locked straight.
- when this isn't enough, start using powder to help with grip
- start doing exercises that work grip strength AFTER you done with deadlifts for the day, also try to do it 3 times a week.

Farmer's walks are great. Pick up the heaviest dumbbells you can carry, walk around with them for 30-60 seconds, or until can;t anymore. Do this 3 times. Nice thing about farmer's walk, it also help grow shoulder strength and size for some reason. Oh you are not suppose to do traps, so just grip the weights and dont let them fall.

Ok so I actually did manage my 280kg deadlift last night.

2 x 15 reps at 60kg
1 x 15 reps at 100kg
1 x 10 reps at 140kg
1 x 10 reps at 180kg
1 x 8 reps at 220kg
1 x 2 reps at 260kg
1 x 1 rep at 280kg
and back to 1 rep 260kg, 5 reps 220kg, and 5 reps 180kg

then almost  :p

omg, you a powerlifter? :D

If you can lift 2.3x your body weight :) i just made it before buggering up my back.

Couldn't even manage proper squats today, the pressure above 50kg was too much.

Add his bodyweight, it should put those weights into perspective :P
Eish, I doubt I'll ever come close to weighing 100 kg's (if my math did not fail me?)
No wonder the wimminz want to bang sloot :D

On a different note though, anyone know where I can get a belt to attach DB's too? I want to do weighted pull ups.

That's insane. How tall and heavy are you? So in a deadlift workout, do u only do deadlifts?

1.93 at anythibg between 119 and 123kg's. My main routine for this day is deadlifts only. I might round it off with lat pulldowns or tricep dips (the dip stand, using my body weight), only because it feels like the opposite what I have been doing :p

omg, you a powerlifter? :D

Nope, powerlifters in my weight class lift 350kg+

Awesome workout this morning... slowly but surely I'm edging to become a mornings person. I managed 18 on my first set of wide grip pull-ups... progress!

That's one thing about gymming at home, you miss out on equipment and numerous other things that an equipped gym offers.
I reckon I could easily blast past most of exercises in the correct atmosphere.

At home I'm often interrupted to help the wife my 2yr old son as he can be a handfull and that break in mental focus doesn't do any good when trying to build a body up.

I was confusing sloot with xrapidx. Will a weight between 85 and 90kg be ideal for 1.86m guy?
I don't want to be huge, just well built.

You probably got that about right... I'd imagine I'd be in the region of 90-95% at a sub 10% body fat.

Get a food scale from game or dischem, count macronutrients (calories/protein/fat/carbs) I skip carbs though, but will count them if I ever need to cut.

I would try something like 3000 calories/112(minimum) protein/65g(minimum) fat.

Assuming you're working out and following the above numbers and you don't gain weight, you are broken :D

You'd be surprised how many calories 3000 actually is, if I don't make myself eat I average 1600, sometimes less. Just never really get hungry.

And to add to the above post;

1g Protein = 4 calories
1g Carbs = 4 calories
1g Fat = 9 calories

Thanks guys. I think i need to invest in a food scale and start that calorie count:erm:

Its gonna be tough to eat more than i am now (I recently just began eating 6 meals a day), but i know if i want to gain weight thats the only way.

Wish me luck!
