Apparently Synthol. Some type of oil injected into muscles to make them appear bigger. And apparently not even illegal.

Yup, synthol. And yep it is legal, or at least nobody has been busted for it AFAIK. Many pros put that **** in their calves.

Some motivation from the Dr.

Miffed.

Bought myself a new longer barbell bar at Sportsman's Warehouse over the weekend (old bar was too short and I reached weight limit/space). Never got around to trying it out because we had family over. Imagine my disappointment on Sunday evening when I want to load my weights for bench pressing on and I find out the weights don't fit. Hole diameter of the weights are too small. Aarrgh...!! Had to wing it with old max weight. Did 2 extra sets.

I also bought a new bench this weekend.

You obviously bought an Olympic bar.
If you know someone with a lathe, then just get the weight plates bored out to Dia. 51
Buying Olympic weight plates will cost you an arm and a leg now.

Then weigh the shavings and write the new weight on the plates? :p

Rookie mistake as I thought the diameters are all the same.

Will ask Sportsman's if I can exchange it. I do need the longer bar.

Just phoned and they will gladly exchange it for me.

But according to them I did not buy an Olympic bar. Just their standard bar. Olympic bar is R1000+ and I only paid R310.

I'll just take one of my weights with me when I go and exchange it.

Sounds like you bought a standard bar - some weight combo sets have their own "size", which isn't standard, and a pain in the arse.

That might just be it.

I bought my whole gym setup second hand and I see everything is Trojan branded except for 2 x 12.5lbs weights which are branded Federal. Even those don't fit on the new bar.

measure the hole in the plates, and the diameter of the bar.

The plates should be bigger than 2.54cm to fit standard

Sportsmans standard plates sizes are different to the ones Game/Makro/Trojan/Maxed sell. Its mos def not Olympic however.
