Hi All
So I've begun my mission to trim down my boep and also build some muscle (Arms, chest, shoulders).
Diet is going well, calorie intake is down, carb intake is down.
Been visiting the gym 3-4 times a week doing cardio and weights.
Someone suggested that I start taking whey protein as this will help with weight loss and also help with muscle gain.

Is there any merit to this?

Thanks

When on a carb restricted diet, the body will use available protein to synthesise. That's why LCHF is low carb, medium protein and high fat. But I agree, 200g may or may not keep him out of ketosis. My guess is it would.

Yeah I agree, but my point was that most of that gram value over his "RDA" of protein is only excess if he isn't training hard frequently.

Some interesting bits in this podcast. It's nice to see more general approaches to strength rather than spending endless hours on isolated exercises working very specific muscles.

For the past year or so, I’ve gotten tweets and emails from AoM readers telling me to check out a book called The Encyclopedia of Underground Strength and Conditioning. I finally got around to it, and after giving it a read, I knew I had to get its author on the podcast. Zach Even-Esh is a strength and conditioning coach and creator of the Underground Strength program. It emphasizes functional strength and conditioning, marrying techniques used by strongmen since the early 1900s with modern practices. Tire flipping, sledgehammers, deadlifting rocks (and barbells) are just some of the exercises you’ll find in the Underground Strength program. Zach and I discuss the origins of Underground Strength and what men can start doing today to become stronger.

Heh.
Funny how those mornings when you wake up tired and don't really feel up to exercising / being active...then you head out and have such an enjoyable time & push yourself real nice :). Was a good morning.

So hurt my knee at gym. Do you guys recommend those knees straps I see at stores? Any type that is good?

Hi All
I've been getting way too many conflicting responses online and chatting to other blokes about this topic, does anyone have some clarity on this.....

I recently joined gym with the aim of getting my boep down and building a bit of muscle on top.
I've been doing cardio and weights in my sessions at the gym
My question is.....
Should I be doing cardio before or after weights, does it matter for a newbie?

Thanks

After.

You want the energy available to your body at the time you at the gym, to be available when you do actual weights, especially when you later on go heavy.
Then after your body has used up the normal energy stores doing weights, it should start grabbing energy from fat stores whilst doing cardio.

The only time you will be doing cardio before weights, is if you want to use it to warm up. No more than 5 minutes and medium to low intensity. That said, you should be warming up with lower weight weights, to practice form using easy weights.

What Tinuva said, plus:

One of the most common questions I get is, “Should I do cardio before or after weights?”

While the long answer is “it depends”, most people will be better off completing cardio after weights whether their primary goal is muscle gain, strength gain, or fat loss.

Here are 7 reasons why you should consider doing cardio after weights:
