Hey guys! So I started a new program this week (Called BVT: Blood Volume Traning). For those not familiar with this, here's an extract from Muscle Tech's website on this :

"The goal of Blood Volume Training (BVT) is to flood the muscles being trained with as much blood as humanly possible. This will help increase the delivery of pump-inducing and cell-hydrating compounds into the cellular compartments of muscle fibers producing an enlarged, “hyper-hydrated” state. Several advanced training principles including 2-4 second peak contractions, isometric static holds, giant sets, supersets, pre-exhaustion and high volume will all be incorporated into the BVT routines to help increase blood flow, maximize your pump and keep nutrient rich blood in the targeted muscles." http://www.muscletech.com/resources/features/blood_volume_training/index.shtml

Has anyone done such an exercise routine before? I must say, this is really very very tiring and I can feel it working. Take the Shoulders & Biceps workout for example (http://www.muscletech.com/resources/features/blood_volume_training/pdf/bvt_shoulders_triceps.pdf). You do 7 different shoulder exercises after each other in which you exercise the whole shoulder in this 7. This makes 1 set. Then you do 4 more...

Also , another thing I found and like to share is this Protein/Carb/Meal-on-the-Go shake (http://www.muscleandstrength.com/recipes/almond-and-banana-breakfast-drink.html). I tried it also and it's really good!
Anyhow...
Keep it real!
;)

I would like to get started with bodybuilding, and have finally read through this entire thread. From what I've read, diet is as important as an exercise programme.

I have done some research on what diet to follow as a starter, I read about easing into it. I can start the diet asap, I don't feel the need to "ease" into it, have done it before so can do it again. Now, my question here is, what diet to follow. I have found a couple of interesting ones on the internet here and here so far.

What I will have to ease into is the gym/exercise programme, as I haven't been to gym for a couple of years. Someone posted a link to a sample 3-day programme on USN's website, which I like the look of, and will suite my schedule as not only work full-time, but also study part-time.

Will either look at joining a small private gym, or use my Vitality and renew my Virgin Active membership. I live in Centurion so recommendations here are welcome.

Now on to supplements, do I need them to start off with, or would I only have to look at them later?. My budget is not huge, but I do need to know what would be required to plan to fit them in. Same goes for the diet.

Comments/suggestions welcome and appreciated!.

Remember: without the 'roids, you can forget to look even close to the guys on the protein shake container labels ;)

If you're not into the 'look at me' body image then for beginner programs, these are pretty good;

StrongLifts
http://stronglifts.com/stronglifts-5x5-beginner-strength-training-program/

Starting Strength
http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/Starting_Strength_Wiki

Both are designed for purely strength training and won't give you that perfect ripped beach body but you'll be able to pick up those posers with one hand after a while.

Lol, don't know if I want to take it that far yet, let me just get started first and see! :D

Thanks for those links. The StrongLifts link interests me the most.

Thanks for those links. Have taken a look at them quickly, and like the look of the StrongLifts one, will download ebook and spreadsheet.

I'm not going that route either, but then again I'm not into body building. I hate that water balloon-with-veins look  Then I'm on high blood pressure medication as well, so it's a definite no-no.

I agree with you there, just want to look good, not like He-Man or something, atm.

Have been reading the SL (StrongLifts, not SecondLife) 5X5 ebook, the most challenging bit is the diet. Would it be practical to use a meal replacement shake on occasions?. Also, it is said on the SL forum that if you follow the diet as recommended, you can fall off the wagon, so to speak, up to four times a week. Really?. I am trying to make a meal plan according to their guidelines, but at the same time isn't boring.

Plan on starting this on Monday, provided I can get my gym membership reactivated. Will also price cost of home gym equipment.

Yeah diet is important, but I keep it simple, I make sure I eat lots of protein, eg last nite I had grilled medium rare sirloin steak (+-500g), rice, and 250g peas. What's left over, I pack for lunch the next day. Breakfast I don't usually eat anymore, because regardless of eating breakfast or not, I'm still starving by 10am. :o

Has anyone used Gaspari Nutrition's products? Especially the Size-On and SuperPump 250 ?
Any reviews / comments on this would be appreciated, thanks guys!
Regards

Hey chaps

Sorry if I missed it, does anyone know of any "hardcore" gyms in Cape Town? Someone mentioned switching to Zone Fitness but that looks far from hardcore. I'm talking actual power racks/cages and so on. I started off at Planet Fitness, that was terrible, switched to VA and now I'm getting over that. Tired of waiting 20 minutes to squat 'cause some guy wants to curl 2.5s in the squat rack you know? So if anyone knows of one, please let me know.

Thanks

BTW guys, a pretty decent forum at tmuscle.com...
