yeah, that was what i have been thinking...but cant hurt to mix things up i guess

The thing is you gain a few milliseconds of tension on your muscles, you can achieve the same thing by just adjusting the speed of your lift as well. Slower=longer/more tension. As for the pause on your chest, try "relaxing" before the press up. Just be sure to start with a lighter weight first. It's a lot more difficult than it seems :)

Question for the gymmers: does it matter how fast/slow you do the repetitions when you do a set of exercises? Obviously one cannot wait ages between reps, but is it better to do the reps slower, or faster?

For the record, I am a lady :)
 
Hi,

I'm gyming regularly 3-5x a week, however I'm still not really shedding my belly (I am still losing weight - around 81kg now, would like to be around 76kg or so). I know this is mainly due to my diet (or lack thereof).

I'd like to try using a meal replacement shake for lunch or dinner to see if this has any effect. Are there any brands you can recommend?

ALSO

Is this a healthy alternative as opposed to a cooked meal?

Evox make insane meal replacements. Also don't confuse fat with loose skin and stop drinking beer assuming you do.

Eat well because you can do gym 20 times a week, if your diet is poor you are wasting your time. Drink plenty water, eat more fruit and chow some veggies :D

I don't drink any beer. I also don't drink in the week. Only social drinking on the weekends and then its vodka + mix if anything, maybe the occasional cocktail.

I try to eat well. Lots of veggies etc but often the hardest time to do this is when I'm at work as I'm almost always on the road, thus a meal replacement would be good to stop me being junk food.

Can you recommend a specific product? Is it healthy? Can one use it to replace 1-2 meals a day on a regular basis?

Yea zen that looks but good and i think jsheed you should rather buy that dude. I am trying to pack on some weight so i need the carbs.
 
also a fan of Nuplex, but it seems to be out of stock everywhere.

I have now ordered a WAR meal replacement and will give that a try.

Once I have achieved my goal weight I will then consider using other supplements to aid with creation of muscle but for now I simply want a healthy meal replacement.

Personally I would go with the Nuplex which still provides you with some carbs to keep going whereas the Leanpro cuts down on carbs completely. It's up to you though. What is your diet like...? Are you eating healthy, cutting carbs or what exactly are you doing...?

Basically I seem to miss breakfast a lot recently. So I typically try and manage some fruit for lunch and some meat of some sort / veg for dinner.

However I often find it hard to stick to a routine with work that requires me to travel frequently (on-site IT tech for different customers) so i'm hoping I can just include something quick and easy like this and give it a go.

I gym 3-5 times a week for 1 hour each day. I also do an hour or Wing Chun kung fu on Mondays, so i'd say im fairly active - although not yet at a fitness level I once was.

I guess i'd like to ideally drop to 75kg or so (currently bordering on 79-80kg) and become lean again. Once i've achieved that I'll consider using something else to aid with muscle gain, but right now those are my goals.

I doubt you will get lean by cutting out carbs, i got lean by simply eating well and exercising obviously, not killing myself doing cardio 1 hour a day either. Mixed it up with light weights and cardio which is of course was never the same day to day.

Your body needs carbs or what will you use as energy? What kind of gym are you doing? Surely not 1 hour of cardio?

Eish bluno i am not certain anyone has the answer for a lady. I will give it a stab though i am far from an expert :D. When i was trimming down and losing weight i did light weights with fast reps, rested a minuted and started again. This though may cause you to get muscular looking arms but it is great for burning fat :D

If you are looking for a diet do CKD. Its tough on low carb days but its great if ur cutting.

i once read about fast and slow twitch muscles and it came down to slow twitch contract for long periods of time but with little force while fast twitch contracts quickly and powerfully but fatigue very rapidly - and they made mention of spinters, and long distance runners and difference between how their bodies look ie spinter is muscular, and long distance runner is lean.

but anyways, back to the question - when lifting your weights, you can lift 'em as quick (but with proper form) as possible, then hold for 1-2s, and then bring the weight down in about 2-3s and that will be 1 rep. this will ensure that you exercise your fast and slow twitch muscles
